    Hi people.

I have 2 PC's(fortunately) and in the past i have had them connected via a network cable with no problems. Very recently i had to do a 'restore' to the day my PC was bought. Now its good that my main PC is functioning 100% how it should(well not @ 1st lol) but i am not able to get my second PC on the net. I have AVG,CounterSpy, and Kerio, running XP Pro on the second PC. AVG,SpyBot and Kerio, running XP Home on the main PC.
As far as i can tell, the firewall is configured correctly, the problem seems to be with the actual network connection, PC 2 does not seem to be aware of any problems, it is only on the main PC(the 1 that connects directly to the net). I have tried the network set up wizard numerous times, basically i don't know what to do...

I will keep an eye on this thread so if any one has specific questions etc. i will try and answer them promptly. Thanks.

PS In the Local Area Connection Status window it reads: You might not be able to access the Internet or some network resources. This problem occured because the network did not assign a network address to the computer

I take it that when you restored it it restored your network settings aswell. Is that what the problem was?

To the 2 posts above: i think the settings altered after the restore. Basically i just read through the help section about 3 times, by which point i knew exactly what i had to do and it worked, so i was lucky.
The secondary PC had connectivity, the Main 1 had internet connectivity and it had worked prior to the restore so i knew it had to be the settings, i went through it many times, in fact i have even managed to start sharing files so all the data i backed up is back on my main one. That was another fluke i think, i'm not complaining :)

    May be this can Help.
In General, you can debug the Network Settings of a computer by following these steps.

Step One. Check the Network parameters in the Computer's Device Manager. Make sure that the Network Card drivers are installed correctly; i.e. there is No IRQ conflict, and No Ghost installation. http://www.ezlan.net/faq#ghost

Step Two. Verify Basic network setting in the OS: http://www.ezlan.net/Installing#verify If the above two Steps indicates that every thing looks good but functionally it does not work.

Step Three. Check (and repair if necessary) the Socket Layers, Winsock, and or refresh the TCP/IP Stack. http://www.ezlan.net/clean#refreshnet

If need to Reinstall; Log to this page it have a lot of links to instructions for Windows Network Installation -http://www.ezlan.net/Installing.html
