    Hi all,

I've only just registered for this site in the hope that somebody out there can help solve an extremely annoying computer problem I have. I'm not very technically savvy and only really know the basics, so apologies if any of this description is a bit vague but here goes anyway...

A while back, I was trying to sort out my family's home PC problems (which generally related to minor viruses, slow loading, pop ups, error messages etc.). Not really being that technically minded, my solution basically amounted to downloading numerous, recommended scanning programs to do the job. Whilst that more or less solved the original problems, it seems to have left me with a new, even bigger irritation.

Now, half of the links i click on don't work at all

e.g Today i tried to download the google toolbar. Clicking "Download Now" worked, but then when i went to click on "Agree (with License Agreement)" nothing happens; certain links/buttons (<- not sure "links" is the best word for them?) work and others do nothing.

Secondly, some websites now won't load at all e.g hotmail.

Apologies again for the description, but hopefully someone out there will understand what i mean!

The PC is a Pentium 4, 2.66 GHZ, 256MB RAM, running Windows XP: sp2.
It has been fully scanned with Ad-Aware SE and AVG anti-virus, amongst others. The web settings have also been completely reset. Suffice to say none of that has worked.

Any help at all would be gratefully appreciated,

    Thanks!

We can try to re-register the DLL responsible for hyperlinks. To do so, please do the following:

    1. Hit windows key + r (or click Start --> Run)
    2. Type 'regsvr32 urlmon.dll' (without the quotes)
    3. Press enter (or click 'OK')

This will re-register the urlmon.dll file. Hopefully, this often corrects the issue you are experiencing.
