I am trying conect to COMCAST's Cable Internet Service using a Thomsom Cable Modem and a Linksys Wired router. Each time I use the set-up disk, I get only to the point where the system asks for my new Admin Password. I provide one and confirm it. The system then bombs on unable to set up router and asks for me to reset it by using the manual reset button on the router. I continually repeat this process for 5 seconds a number of times without any success before giving up. Any other options?

Have you tried connecting using the Thompson only ?? if not see if you can connect/configure, reboot and try Internet connection, if OK power down then add the Router, or is that what you are trying to do??

Comcast's disk, Thompson RCA cable modem disk or linksys' setup disk?
    What model is the router?
I recently set up RCA modem from Comcast with Linksys WRT54G (old wireless router) and did not have to supply passwords.

    Windows? If so, what version.

As far as I'm aware, a router needs the reset button held in for at least 30 seconds to reset. Of course, you may have a newer model and the directions are different.

I am working with VISTA. I went to a site for VISTA users which gave some instructions on how to delete a named, known Network. My Network is an unknown one. Can I use the Delete function on the Network sub-panel on the Control Panel under the LAN icon?

I need to first delete my 'unknown/unnamed network' that I accidentally created, get COMCAST Cable Internet connected via the Thomson RCA Cable Router, and then re-do my Network. Next, I will need to convert my COMPAQ Laptop to VISTA so I can link up the network using Network Magic.

Also, I ditched my Linksys wired router for a Netgear Plug-and-Play wired router with no problems with the reset switch. I am going to try and get a refund for it. Or, perhaps I can sell on EBAY!

Sorry, I don't run Vista so I can't offer much help there.
I've never had an unknown network appear. At this point, since it isn't working, it could not do much harm to delete this "unknown" network and start over.
