Linux goes to blank screen on install...

Had Ubuntu installed, it worked fine but I had to format for a new partition (out of space) I would like to try out Linux. After I boot into setup, it stays at a black screen. It did that when I was installed Ubuntu, the first time. I don't know how exactly it ended up working, after a lot of different things I was able to get it to boot. I have no idea what to do here. It does the same thing with Fedora.

ATI Radeon 9250
3.06 GHz single core
1GB ram
80GB hard drive w/70GB free

 

Are you trying to install or is it already installed? Do you get the menu when you startup(Is it booting to disc?)

You could do a non UI install by using the expert option then troubleshoot X once its installed

Also have you downloaded the latest version?

Did you have Ubuntu installed on this same machine? If so, what version of Ubuntu? And what version are you trying to install now?

I've had difficulties in the past with video card hardware compatibility with Linux. I have read that ATI cards can be somewhat challenging to set up. Conversely, it is also possible that the previous version of Ubuntu had "legacy drivers" which are now unsupported and/or "broken" in the most recent version. I'd look into your ATI Radeon 9250 compatibility with whichever version of Linux you're trying to install.

 

try using the install cd again but this time with a different screen resolution sounds like it should work
