Just bought a DVD burner from newegg the LITE-ON, but no software come with it and I did not see anything on there web site. Does anyone know where to get software for this?

I also have a Lite-On DVD burner (shd-16p1s) and don't have a driver for it. Anyone know of one? I haven't found one on this site or others of the same type.

I downloaded the firmware update and installed it. It hasn't made any difference. Windows Media Player still doesn't recognize my burner as one. Neither does Nero. Any suggestions? I'm really rather in the dark here.

 

Driver instructions (Win XP Pro)

Start - Settings - Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager

Expand DVD/CD-ROM Drives by clicking on the +

Right-click on the drive (Lite-on DVDRW etc)

select 'update driver'

Getting a DVD burner is the solution.

 

Sach2 is exactly correct. The DVD drive in question is READ only; no writing possible. All the newest firmware or drivers in the world won't let you burn anything. You need a DVDRW; you have a DVDROM. Check this link:

If you need DVD playback software for watching movies, try GOMPlayer or Media Player Classic. Both are free in the Multimedia section here at Major Geeks. If you play lots of different media files (.avi, .mp4, .mkv, etc), you should install a codec pack also. I like the Storm pack, also in the MutliMedia section.

 

Thank you both for the info. This drive was a gift and came from a local tech store. I've had trouble with items from this guy before so it's no wonder I didn't know about this. It was supposed to be a dvd-rw drive. Live and learn.
