    Hello everyone,

I recently bought a new pc. I don't think this problem will cause you to need its specs so I won't present them.

Here is the problem. When I get onto the internet (using Internet Explorer) I go to yahoo, or any other site that has any type of log in, and I try to log in. I put in my user name and password and press enter or click "sign in" and it starts to load the page, but I come to the "The page cannot be displayed" page. I have tried on numerous occassions and with different sites to log in and get the same result. Because this happens everytime I try to log in, I assume that it isn't a problem with the website itself. Is this a problem with my settings?

Thank You in advance for any help.

I am going to guess possible WinSock issue, or Firewall software issue. Do need to know What OS (XP home or Pro), is it updated to date, and also what Anti-Virus are you running on this system.

Sorry it took so long for me to respond.

The OS is XP Home and is updated. The antivirus is AntiVir XP. I also own Kaspersky but do not have it on that system. Would using Kaspersky instead of AntiVir make a difference?

I don't think that it is a A/V issue, but more having to do with timeout from the request to the DNS. Have you tried rebooting your Router and Modem, along with checking Firewall settings?

I have other PC's running on the same router and modem and don't have this problem with them. Should I still reboot them just to try it anyway? I don't know much about firewall settings other than they are set at recommended by the OS.

Rebooting the networking hardware does not hurt. But then again I am thinking that it is a Winsock or host file issue.

OK. I will reboot the hardware and see if that helps. Also, I'm not exactly sure what you are talking about when you say Winsock, can you elaborate?

I went to the thread that you posted. There I found the link to the downloadable Winsock fixer. I downloaded and ran that. It said that it fixed any problems, but I still can't log in. That must not have been the problem.

You are facing a Common Problem in IE with Win XP

Unable to Login to Secure Sites , ie the sites that start with https:\\ instead of http:\\

    to resolve this

    Click on Start
    Click on Run
    Type CMD

At the command promt, type the following lines and press ENTER after each line

    regsvr32 softpub.dll
    regsvr32 wintrust.dll
    regsvr32 initpki.dll
    regsvr32 dssenh.dll
    regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
    regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll
    regsvr32 sccbase.dll
    regsvr32 slbcsp.dll
    regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll

Click OK when you receive the message that DllRegisterServer in FileName succeeded after each .dll file you register.

Note : Registering the third .dll file " regsvr32 initpki.dll " may take a second or two more than the rest, wait untill you get the succeeded message to Proceed.
Type exit to quit Command Prompt

    Restart Comp
    Then Try
