Live Mail with Virgin media account

I have a Virgin Media account with ADSL and have a strange problem .
I run windows live mail which does all i ask of it .I now have a problem in that if i want to use my Virgin.net account to receive e-mail ,i can only access the unread messages and not the read ones . I have used the same setting that i usually use and ie Pop3 and mail.virgin.net in both incoming and outgoing server settings .
For some strange reason Virgin Media do not support Live mail even though it is one of the most widely used e-mail programs around ,and i do not want to use yet another e-mail program .It does not complain that i am using Live mail but only downloads the unread messages.I know there must be a fix out there somewhere so i can download my whole account which is probaly 500 + messages . Please can somebody help ,

I have tried the setupinstructions as noted on the VirginMedia website ,but when i send receieve i then get ,

Unable to send or receive messages for the Virgin (XXXX) account. The host 'pop3.virgin.net' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly.

Server: 'pop3.virgin.net'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0D
Protocol: POP3
Port: 995
Secure(SSL): Yes
Socket Error: 11004

This maybe as it is a Virgin.net account and not a virgin.com account where the port number maybe different.Thank you for your help and i hope that you can help me further , as before on default set up i got some mail ie unread but now i cannot access the account ,as above ,
