I am getting ready to set up four CCTV security cameras at my house. I can either get a stand-alone DVR with Internet access or add a PCI card to my PC and add a hard drive to record the footage.

The flaw I see in this plan is if a burglar gets in the house and steals or smashes the device doing the recording (this has happened in several robberies around Houston lately).

In addition to recording the CCTV footage on the hard drive, is there any way to automatically upload all or part of the recordings in real time to a "cloud" account like SkyDive? If my Internet didn't support enough upload speed to record a full 120 frames per second (4 cameras x 30FPS), I'd even be happy with something that uploaded one frame per second "snapshots" of what the cameras are seeing.

Again, I'm looking to do automatic recording, not just viewing.

If such a program or service exists that doesn't cost a fortune, will it be better to transfer the data from the PC directly (PCI card) or can I do this by connecting the (Linux-based) DVR to my network?

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

I think when you have a dvr you can record the videos of you cameras. And also you can see the videos by using the apps in your mobile phone. And if you are feeling any difficulty to set that network than get review on Google by searching about your specific model.

The standalone DVR I have only does pictures by email, I am planning on replacing it with a PC too. I am going the USB DVR route on a small Acer.
Another option is a Linux based DVR like http://www.zoneminder.com/ or viewmax ?

If you can map your online storage as a local drive, then point the software to record snapshots to that drive you're good. Some Programs will FTP the images, but good luck find an FTP site unless you have the ability to set up your own outside your home.
Some of the online storage sites are WebDav, and you can use NetDrive. "Windows only: Mount remote drives over FTP, SFTP, WebDAV or iFolder to your desktop with freeware application NetDrive. "

I don't think video caps would work since there will be lag saving to the remote drive, but you can schedule a backup program like Cobian, to zip and upload the files at a given time.

There is also http://www.mangocam.com I used them until I got a Lenovo ix2-4 NAS to use. I weighed the costs of paying yearly and the cost for an enclosure, and the cost for the enclosure won.

You can buy wall mounted secured enclosures for the dvr's, that are very hardened from people trying to get into them. Most burglars are not going to take the time to hunt down for the dvr.

Majority of thieves are crack heads and junkies, and will not take the time to go searching for the cameras and other equipment. They just want to do a quick snatch and grab and get out of there.

Also you only need to set the system up for motion detection, not 24/7 capture.

You can setup mini cameras from your desktop.I have 4 Logitech webcames connected to my system 3 in house and one out side front door pointing tword the door/drive way.

Cost 75$:-D I use the motion detection sytem on the program to capture.Cost me extra 50$ or so for the extra length of usb cable.
