I must have checked wrongly something in my settings or what ever....Anyway, my Desktop and Start-menu Files now end with ".lnk" I have looked everywhere to find what I did. I've Googled and use my "Help and Support" at no avail. Where and what do I unclick to hide the ".lnk" suffix?
    Please help!!confused

All I can suggest is Dial-A-Fix (download here from MG) or roll back the PC via System Restore.... If you're not running SP2, install it and it should fix the problem....

i had this , and it was fixed on this site,
    download, http://www.dougknox.com/
scroll down to windows xp fixes, then to File association fixes, then LNK (shortcut)file association fix, you will get a panel asking you to download Linkfile-fix,zip. do this and select desktop as place to put it. then click on it extract to desktop .go to start, run, click ok ,click on file, import ,click on the Reg file number, click,Open. this will alter the registry setting. Log off and reboot. good luck.

I have SP2 and don't keep a lot of restore points. I'll try one of those suggested sites./I don't understand why I should have to download something though, cause all I did was click something somewhere I shouldn't have. LOL
I was hoping to find out where it was so I could In-click it./I'm a mess....thanks for the help.

all i can do is try and help you with your problem, you have a broken file association, and the method i gave you is the easy way to overcome it. the fault originally occurred in ,by installing and uninstalling something that has affected your Registry setting, sometimes its adaware or anything that requires a registry change,in my opinion and i'm only speaking for myself ,a lot of registry cleaners should come with a health warning, that is why you are constantly being advised to do backups. now if you don't understand the procedure i gave you ,i'm perfectly willing to go through it step by step,i can do no more.
