    Hello,
I'm having a little problem here,It's my old HP Computer I just formatted the hard drive and loaded Windows Me on it then I will upgrade to XP Pro. I have done this many times before, what is happening is after Windows Me is loaded you go thur the interduction screens, click next, next next. When I get to the agreeing to the lincense agreement the machine will not let me tick the yes box to agree so I'm stuck here. Cannot not toggle with the key board and cannot tick the yes box with the mouse. I can get into safemode,is there a way I can access the lincense agreement in safemode so I can get my system up and running.

    Marlene,

I have tried F8 and does not work and I formatted with Fat 32, so I'm just stuck here at the license agreement screen and cannot go any farther. :cry

    Hi Marlene

On some keyboards that have multimedia keys the layout can get accidently screwed up, so just try tbis and sed if it helps, press and hold = and press w then try F8

Screams rolleyes nope that did not work Halo but thank you for your input. There has to be a file or folder that I can access and agree to the license in Safe mode. Safe mode I have access to everything, out of safe mode I'm stuck at the license screen --------> :cry

It sounds to me like you have a non-functioning keyboard and mouse.

What type of connectors on each? PS/2 (round) or USB?

If USB, you need to be sure it is enabled in the BIOS so the keyboard functions.

There are 4 different screens to agree to before the final one that has the license agreement. I can toggle or use the mouse on those first four screens but when it comes to final screen, License Agreement I cannot put a tick in the yes box. In this final screen there is a back button,I can toggle the keyboard or use the mouse on that button but cannot tick the yes box to start windows. So I would say my mouse and keyboard are in good working order and they work perfect in safemode as well. And its not USB its PS/2.

Sits in the corner and :cry

    Hi Marlene,

Have you tried actually scrolling down to the end of the agreement?

Using the mouse, see if you can click on the small down arrow next to the License Agreement and scroll down all the way to the end.

When it gets to the end see if that activates the "I Accept the Agreement" and you can tick it.

    Hi,
Well after playing around with this machine going in and out of safemode trying to get windows to start guess what happen. I came out of safemode for about the 20th time and new grayed out screen appeared I never seen before asking me again for to accept the license agreement this time it let me put the tick in yes, went to next screen and it ask for my product key number. GRRRRRRRRRR I don't have it,went back into saftmode and it was not in the registry where is was suppose to be ( HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion ). And I could not install any software to fined the key, could only go into safe mood. I kept on looking on the internet and a tech said look on the side of your case "BINGO" there is was. Restarted my PC again, got to that new grayed window, put in my info and PC started in Windows "Wooooooooooooohooooooooooo" I'm up and running. I want to thank all you people for your help.

Marlene, I'm having the same issue, but I have updated the bios changed the hard drive and removed the scuzzi card. do you think this this triggers the xp to disallow install?
when you went to safe mode do you recall if you were able to save any settings to get the grey prompt screen?

This thread is over a year old, so I doubt you will get a reply from Marlene. I suggest that you start a new thread with your issue and explain in detail what the problems are. :major
