M Del Latitude E 6410 laptop is giving me fits. AVG watchdog popped up a window saying a virus threat needed to be removed. It ask to restart computer which I allowed. upon restart no internet. It connects to my router,I can see other computers on the local network, I can print to my wireless printer, get files from other computers, but no browser or email works. the browser opens, Google is my home page, but when I put in a search or an address it says not connected to internet. I can ping 8.8.8.8 but can not ping microsoft.com or any other named website. I went into services.msc and there were many disabled. I have tried to recover but it says no recovery points available I would like to restore but need to save all my programs and files to do that.

    Any suggestons

I Have tried to pull up a restore point, they are not there. Whatever happened removed the restore points. disabled system restore, and some other functions along with the ability to use browsers. I am beginning to think that a critical service was deleted.

Take the laptop hard drive out and connect it to a working computer (after the other computer is booted up) using something like this
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812232002
and copy (do not move just in case there is a hiccup while you are dealing with your files) to another location.

Once you have the files you need, put the hd back in the laptop and restore to factory condition. Be advised that you will have to do all the Window patches. Any programs you've installed will have to be re-installed so look over everything and write down the programs you need to find disks/serial numbers for to install again.

Might I suggest for the future, learning how to create an image. That way, when there is a problem, to restore the image and only have a month or two of updating to do.
