I am a Apple Service Provider, but help with minor PC work for some of my clients. I used AVG to get rid of a virus that had infected the location.exe file in Windows XP Pro Dell PC. After removal the unit no longer could access the network or internet. I also tried a ip release & renew, but the renew command failed everytime. I even tried a new NIC card and overlay of the OS and nothing helped. I am sure this is simple for you guys, however I could use some help! Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You may have a broken LSP-chain or you could have other issues.

Try running this: XP TCP/IP Repair

Let me know if it helps!

Thanks for the reply! Anything else that I could try if that doesn't work?

If you know how to run and use HijackThis, check to see if there are any O10 lines that indicate loss on Internet Connection due to a broken LSP chain. Please do not post a HijackThis log though. We only accept HijackThis logs after the instructions in the below sticky thread have been completed:
