locked hard drive HELP??????

i don't think it's on the mobo in the laptop cause i put a diff hd in the laptop that this locked hd came out of and it didnt lock it it worked fine but when i put the Original hd (the locked hd) back in it . it was still locked..

 

somebody tell me if this is true.a guy told me that if i put a magnet on this hd over night it will erase all of the data on the platters ie..getting rid of of the password.......?

 

maybe it *could* work but you might also destroy the firmware thus rendering the drive completely useless...AKA junk...AKA big expensive paper weight

 

i think i will hold off on useing a magnet right now......

 

It probably wouldn't go thru the casing anyway, you need a specialised magnet to blank drives that way, not just any old permenant magnet will do.

I would suggest contacting Hitachi about this. I have a feeling they will just tell you to download the utility, but when you tell them that it doesnt work (and tell them exactly what happened) they might be able to help you further.

The XBox hardrives AFAIK have non-industry standard firmware specs, so I don't *THINK* an xbox drive unlocker will do the trick really. Its worth a try perhaps.

 

if i change the board on the hd would that help...???

This Is Very Wierd!! I Have A Fujitsu Lifebook C6631 With That Very Hd In It. I Had A Bios Password On The Pc That I Forgot. Well The Pc Was Working But I Wanted To Change My Power Control Settings So I Reset The Bios. I Forgot That I Set A Hd Password As Well! So Now My Hd Is Locked Also. Dammit I Need It For Work Tomorrow .. I Guess That Aint Happening. My Fujitsu Laptop Says That I Can Only Get The Hd Working Again By Putting It In A Machine With The Identical Password (obviously By Creating The Same Bios Password It Should Work Too).

I Should Have Left It Alone!!!! Dammit Help Anyone
