    Hi everyone
I'm hoping someone here will have an answer or suggestions as I can't
    think what else to do
My son's laptop ( Dell Inspiron 6000) changed the password on itself
somehow and he can't get back in and as he bought it at Aaron's rent to
own and the warranty has expired Dell will not help
Please anything my son has to have this for work and I've tried
everything then I was typing in different things and then I'm
not sure what happened but now when I boot it up it comes up
    Invalid configurationinformation-please run setup Program

is setup the XP disc because I can't get it to boot in there

F2 immediately when starting the computer will get you into BIOS/Setup utility.

You could look through the screens to see if there is an error. If no obvious error then ALT +P will take you to the second screen. Check Boot Sequence, you want CDROM first. (This will allow you to boot from the XP CD) Do not change any password settings in the BIOS/Setup utility. Seriously, DO NOT change any password settings in BIOS. Your password problem is likely in Windows not in this utility.

This may give you an idea of what the screens will look like http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ban_gx1/en/ug_sdt/sysetup.htm#system_data

Are you talking about the windows desktop password or the BIOS password. If it's the bios password, you only have one coarse of action at this point. If you're BIOS is password protected you need to do something called clearing the CMOS. In order to do this you have to do three things.

1.) Unplug laptop from power supply

2.) Take battery out of laptop

3.) Look to your owners manual (if provided) on how to clear CMOS PASSWORD settings. Or click .::HERE::. for english directions or this link to get a manual in the language you desire .::HERE::. Use this manual to learn how to take apart your Dell laptop to get to the CMOS(coin-cell) battery.

4.) After you get the manual, you'll have to take apart the laptop and remove the CMOS(coin-cell) battery for about 45 seconds. Then put the CMOS battery back into the motherboard. This will reset your BIOS back to factory default and should clear the password. Always make sure to read through that manual. All power must be stripped from the laptop in order for this to work. Meaning the main battery on the outside of the laptop and the power cord itself must not be plugged in.

Now if your problem is the windows password to get to your desktop, that's a different story. If you get to the windows welcome screen and it asks you for a password when you try to click the user name you wish to login to. You should locate a program called ERD commander (now owned by Microsoft) this will let you change a password on any user account. You can find this as a free download from microsoft.com.

    Hope that helps,
