I bought a used computer with windows xp black installed on it.

accidently tried to restore it to an earlier time than when I bought it.

It will bring up safe mode, but wants a password before it will let me do anything.

If you can help me, I would appreciate it.

    Thanks.

Well, at least the seller told you it was a pirated XP as there is no 'black' XP in Microsoft's stable. Why not switch it over to Linux instead? Free operating system. Make lemonade with lemons.

    Hi

Sadly as mentioned if you have XP Black then you have an illegal version of Windows XP as no such version exists in the retail or volume licence arena, so your best bet for stability is to install a retail version of Windows XP

    Hello,
If you have important info on your computer, you can download a small linux distro like Puppy and burn it with ImgBurn. Connect an external hard drive or flash drive to transfer your data.

    If you ever run into a Admin password problem;

    Trinity Rescue Kit

    Read the documentation/howto section

I have the disk he bought from Microsoft. Along with the receipt. On the receipt, it calls it an unattained copy. Specifically: Windows XP Black Unattained.

I suspect you mean unattended and not unattained.

Do you have an official Microsoft holograph with a serial number on it? Usually they are located on the side or bottom of a desktop computer. In rare instances, it is located inside the computer.

That might have the holograph with it instead of pasted on the computer.

LOL! Sorry, one thing I can do is spell. The word is unattained.

Holograph on both computer and disk.

I finally decided to re-install the OS from the disk.

Oh, well. Didn't kill me, just a pain.
