MajorGeeks has been such a great help for me, I just wanted to thank you guys for the support before I begin. Thank you.

So, I've been borrowing my mom's computer. I thought it had some malware because lately, Google Chrome and IE had both been locking up and randomly freezing. Chrome got so bad I had to delete it. Well, you guys cleared me on the malware front, so now I'am here. I'll post as many specs as I can. Thank you so much. This freezing, locking up, and lag is driving me crazy! I've defraged my computer, cleaned the disks, and have deleted all temporary files multiple times!

Is the freezing and locking up only happening when you are on the internet?
What kind of setup do you use to connect to the internet? Cable, dsl or something else?
Have you tried running IE with no addons? Does it make a difference?

    I appreciate your timely response.

Yes, it is only freezing while using the internet. Viewing documents, folders, running programs, etc., is all fine. It seemed to get worse about two weeks ago. I was primarily a Chrome user, but it got so bad, I had to delete it. IE works slightly better.

I live in a home that has cable internet.

I believe I'm currently running IE with no add-ons.

    Thank you!

I tried Chrome on one computer and did not like it. I used Revo Uninstaller to remove it. If you simply used add/remove programs, then you have remnants of chrome all over the place. That might be what is interfering with IE.

    Download Revo Uninstaller http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/revo_uninstaller.html
    and install the free version.

Install Chrome again but this time, let Revo uninstall it.

If that doesn't make a difference, you might want to pick a restore point 2 weeks earlier before the freezing started.
