    HI
Its not very often I need help but im pulling my hair out. Ive just replaced the batteries on my keyboard, now it wont type, the calculator, volume etc all work. I had this years ago but cant remember how to solve it.

Ive tried the following but Im either doing it wrong or the instructions are wrong
    1) Press Ctrl + Alt +F12
    2) Press connect button on the receiver
    3) Press connect button on the keyboard
    4) Press escape key

Ive tried another of the same keyboards and another receiver but its still the same

I know its an old keyboard but I really like it.

    Thanks

Huh? Are you running Linux? That is a Linux function to switch to the "12th virtual console" or tty12.

Are you saying you tried two different keyboards and they do the same thing?

Have you tried a wired keyboard to see what happens?

Have you done a "cold" reboot? By “cold”, I mean shut down the computer and flip the master power switch on the back of the power supply (if the supply has one) to off (or “O”), or unplug the power supply from the wall for about 15 seconds. Then turn the master power switch to on (or “|”), or reconnect the power cable and boot up and see what happens. By totally removing power, you reset the PSU. It also removes the +5Vsb standby voltage all ATX Form Factor power supplies are required to supply whenever the power supply is plugged into the wall and (if applicable) the master power switch is set to on. This standby voltage is distributed throughout several points on the motherboard, including RAM for faster boots and the USB ports too. This also keeps alive several features, including “wake on keyboard” and “wake on mouse”, and the network interface for “Wake on LAN” commands. A cold reboot ensures any device settings that may be held by the standby voltage are released, then reset when power is restored. A cold reboot also helps ensure any corrupt software settings after installs and upgrades are reset too.

Have you verified the USB ports work by plugging in a different device?

If the port works, you may need to completely uninstall any keyboard drivers, do another cold reboot, then start fresh with a new install.

All the USB Ports are ok, Ive tried other usb ports. I'm thinking driver issue.

Yep, Driver was the problem. No idea how replacing the batteries would cause the driver to change.

    Thanks for the help :)

It should not have. So clearly, you have gremlins. Next time, if possible, shut down the computer, then switch batteries.

OR, what I have done when my keyboard (or mouse) die, I take the device to the other side of my house, hopefully out of range, then swap batteries. I cannot say that works - I just know I have not had any problems. When I get into range, I just pick up where I left off.

It’s bizarre, I’ve changed the batteries loads of times and never had any problems. In future, I’ll shutdown
