I have a logitech P7-3F serial mouse. I have a sabrent RS232 to USB adapter that I am using to connect it to my Windows 10 machine. It has an FTDI chipset in it, and the adapter shows up in device manager. Unfortunately, the mouse itself doesn't appear in windows, nor does it function.

I know the mouse works because I have plugged it into an older machine running an older version of windows and it works fine.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Thanks,

    brian

I have also tried now using an RS232 to PS2 adapter and I still can't see the mouse in Windows 10. I have also checked my bios to make sure there are not any weird settings related to ps2 devices and it looks ok there.

For what reason are you using a serial mouse?
There are countless PS2 or USB mouses available.

i'm particularly attached to the specific mouse. i'm motivated enough to have bought a couple of adapters and such.
if you think you could help me in my quest, i would much appreciate it.

    thanks

So, I tried this and no dice still.

I haven't given up hope though. I found the registry entry for the service and the correct driver in the system32/drivers folder, but the service isn't listed in the services manager.

Perhaps if I changed the value of "default" in the registry for sermouse, maybe that would enable the service?

"Default" is currently set to (no value). Would you happen to know if changing this would do the trick?

    Thanks

    It's worth a try.
Backup the registry key before you do.
