And really, Goldenskull...although you are correct and she should have been able to read on the wrapper how many go in it, I don't think it's at all reasonable for you to assume someone is stupid for not knowing off the top of their head how many it is. I surely don't, and I am neither blond nor 16. I simply don't care, and it's been years since I've wrapped change.

The education systems of US and UK are pitiful and have been for the last 10yrs or so, it seems that pushing folk through the system to gain certificates is the norm, while actual quality of education is lost for the masses, unless you are going into university, although some degrees I feel are worthless in the modern working world.

I see this alot in application forms for jobs at work, when even the candidate cannot even use MS Word to spellcheck the damn document! this is sadly how we have evolved, reliance on computing but actually not understanding computing as the user does not undertand basic English or Grammar to start with so computing will not help anyways.

I have to say if you critisise another you have to basically be 100% correct in your argument, spelling or grammatical mistakes are not so bad if you make them in the 3rd party but if you are critisising another off the bat then your are cannon fodder.

Cashier had probably never seen more than a few coins at a time. Cash is largely relegated to the very intelligent given the advent of pure plastics.

Of course, I still believe in the cash theory: If you can't pay entirely out of pocket for it, you don't need it at all.

    David.
Back when I went to school, the teachers lived up to the name.
Student couldn't understand the question or the problem, the teacher was right there beside them and guided them through it slowly, explaining each step, until the student fully understood.
Students could get help on weekends if they needed it.
Teachers could take pride in what they accomplished.
If a student still didn't do well, he would be in the same grade the next year.
Wasn't any "pushing them through" just so the school could get some grant money.

    Hey hrlow

Now that is what I call teaching, being right beside a pupil to hel them understand the said topic. I just feel as you have mentioned it that "pride" for some teachers has been lost to maybe too much Gov or union intervention to just taking home that paycheck, don't get me wrong there are some superb dedicated teachers around and a friend of mine is a junior school teacher and her dedication is superb.

But I think for the UK and its come out more this week is the education exam boards are more after looking at getting pupils through the exams with a pass (ergo ££$$) than the actual exam being a real strong test of a persons ability, they just seem to be to me easier than what I did at school.

But all schools are not the same sadly some good and some not so.

One of the biggest problems with education now is that results are uppermost and how they are achieved come much further down the list of requirements.
It can be seen in all sectors of the system, educational quality has descended to a pitiful level where kids are getting exam passes and are barely able to read or write a coherent sentence and due to the social engineering they do not understand that some pupils have a better ability than others but they have been brainwashed by the establishment that no one fails (what a stupid idea).
I am no professor but i am reasonably coherent (i think) i can do maths and understand that i will not always reach a pass level in all that i attempt, Failure is part of the learning process.

He who has not failed has not learned, i don't know who said it but it rings true to me.

Very true, Bill. Making everyone pass, regardless of actual performance, is like having a race where everyone is a winner. Maybe so - but everyone is also a 'loser' as well.rolleyes

Hmm, isn't there a form of government that advances mediocrity? :-D:-D

Successful governments promote the underclass and the "lowest common denominator" at the expense of the intellectual elite. In this way, the plebeian masses remain under the control of purveyors of bureaucracy, without any initiative for revolution. This is a basic principle of Machiavellian politics. ~ Ergo - Govt. stability at the expense of civilization advances. Vis-a-vis:- The needs of the powerful outweigh the needs of the sycophantic underclasses.

I have always been rather impressed by the fact that although (I assume) English is not your first language, your grammar, spelling and usage are better than easily 80% of the people I run across, many of them here, who know no other language. :wave

Thanks for the compliment Sarg but if i were to accept it i would be acting fraudulently as English is my mother language.
I was born in the UK but during my military service i was stationed in Brussels at Nato HQ and met the most charming Belgian lady (Laurette) who became my wife and i have now lived in Belgium for more than 20 years.
