Which LCD monitor /hdtv last for years. I've been looking at Sony vs Samsung?

For monitors, I lean towards Samsung or ASUS. Both have a full three-year warranty, and I think ASUS is now paying shipping both ways on exchanging defective units.

For TV sets, I prefer Panasonic. Their pricing is competitive with LG and Samsung; lower than Sony. Consumer Reports gives Panasonic TVs high marks and I (knock on wood) have yet to have any problems with one.

    Hope this helps. :)

Voting for Samsung as I'm still using this ancient 19" monitor SyncMaster 191TPlus since mid 2004 and it is still working perfectly. *knock on wood* Paid a lot of dough though for this one at the time. Don't know whether any new one would last this long!

I don't think it matters that much if you stick with the major brands. I have been using Samsung and ViewSonic monitors for years without "failures". And I have used Samsung and Sony TVs for years too without problems.

Well in general I'd definitely choose LCD over plasma for longevity, plasma's can suffer burn in over time as the phosphor becomes degraded, plasma's put out much more heat than LCD's also which is also generally a negative for longevity.

It's hard to pick between brands as has been said, personally I like Sony and haven't had a problem with any of them. As for Sony and Samsung the Irony is their panels are actually made in the same factory called S-LCD in which they each own half, they share technology and research so you couldn't have chosen two brands that are harder to separate:-D

Unless someone has some extremely detailed unbiased stats I wouldn't trust anyone who says one is more reliable than the other and even then a lot comes down to the exact model and its inherent faults...
