this is an amazing shot. Another sniper (ex-seal) tried to dupe this shot at the MacMillian grounds at 7k feet below Furlongs's shot and couldn't even hit the dirt patch where the target was set up. Goes to show you how precise you need to be and how cognizant of the environment you need to be in order to make a shot like that.

when i was serving we used to shoot regularly at 1000 meters + with an old Lee enfield 3.03 but thats not even close to his shot (i can't watch the video it's blocked for some reason)

My favorite weapon and work tool was a Carl Gustav 7.62 and that had a muzzle velocity of 2000 feet per second.

If clicking Kodos video to run and you get a message embedding disabled then click the Watch on YouTube option and it should load.

Cool video thanks:) I love stuff like this, the US rounds he was talking about are these, they are the most commonly used .50 ammo by snipers called the Raufoss round, its a deliciously vicious piece of kit called a high explosive armour piercing incendiary, the Geneva convention have actually ruled they are only supposed to be used on armoured targets but the US and other military's say they can be used on all targets.,I agree:-D It doesn't cause any more suffering to the victim like a dumdum round it just kills people smartish.

When they hit a torso they explode and blow the person in half:-D firing the tungsten penetrator through anything that's behind, they can go through an inch thick steel armour plate at any range and kill what's behind it then the zirconium sets fire to everything it touches burning for tens of minutes after the round has detonated.

Here's pretty good demo of the round at 2.40 in this vid.

The UK forces used the SLR (self loading rifle) based on the Belgian FN with copper coated 7.62 ammo as standard and that was also condemned by Geneva but it had an incredible kill range up to 700 meters with a muzzle velocity of 1760 feet per second and no matter where you were hit you stopped, that's why the US military like the Raufoss round, for it's stopping power!

It doesn't make sense really, its understandable where dum dum rounds are concerned as they cause a prolonged painful death but who says when a round is too powerful to be used on infantry? We use 2000lb bombs and 120mm shells on infantry.

The 30mm chain gun on the apache is only supposed to be used on vehicles as stated by the Geneva convention but its bread and butter is infantry stopping,in the current wars anyway.

What I find amusing about the SLR is when we upgraded our troops rifles we chose the SA-80 it was only 5.56 compared to the SLR's 7.62 and had a less lethal range and highly diminished stopping power when compared to the SLR.

But we then sold all the SLR's to African states and then ended up over in Africa fighting against our own rifles,so our troops are/were fighting against our old rifles and the reason the MOD got rid of them and I quote "They were too powerful.":-D
