I have no idea why ive been sent this. My memory is a little on the shoddy side, and I have vague memories of possibly signing up for something like this. It seems legit; they provided a telephone number and everything, and if it is spam, then they have done a remarkablely specific campaign, what are the odds they would get someone in my area?
Then again, how could they have got this info about me? I have been handing out my CV to people, but i seriously doubt that they would have forwarded it on.
Problem is, im not sure i fit the characteristics, i dont play computer games all that much, though this may provide the impetus for changing that ;) "Mum/ Dad, i can't get off the game, its an assignment that i have to hand in tommorrow for work"

So the question is... should I go for it, or possibly hand it off to one of my more... gamer-type friends?

[NB: i edited out the contact details in case someone came across it and thought it would be funny to sign these people up for something]

I have just been informed by my mother that she signed me up for this. The question still remains though!

    Questions...

Do you think you could do it and like it?
Would you like to get paid for playing/testing games?
Do you want work in a IT field, this step may help?

Would also look good on CV, shows you want to work and have work experience.

personally if your handing out your CV are you looking for work ( full or PT ) its a positive step forward, employers will normally go for the person who has experience and shows a willingness to look for work rather than still on ass at home, so even if this is not your 1st choice, it helps to get paid while looking for work, if its just a part time job your after then a great way to earn extra ££££££'s.

i'd <3 to know how much it pays... i'm not a huge gamer but i would jump on that in an instant.... just think about how fast your day will go by, playing video games... you literally won't have time to look at the clock... and if you get into a game you really like, well you're really going to enjoy it... find out how much you get paid and convert it to U.S. dollars so i can get an idea of how cool this might be =]

It's a Curriculum Vitae, basically resume :) Works the same, you give it to prospective employees so they can see your qualifications and experience in whatever field you're trying to get into.

EDIT: Darn, I got beat to it :p

CV is primarily useful in Medicine, for doctors to list all their degrees, awards won, and positions held, as well as published papers. Basically more BS.

In the USA perhaps, but over here its standard practice to give a CV for any job you're going for. Most people want to have more information than a resume would give you when shopping for employees, especially when its a specific skilled job. But if you were applying for a job at the local ASDA (WalMart), you'd probably give them a resume, because they probably wouldn't care about how you worked backstage for a rock and roll tour in Scandinavia one year (plus photocopies of passes) and your certificate for your 1 day cheese making course, and that 2 paragraph column you had in your school newspaper for a term ... or whatever.

Yep, a C.V., or Curriculum Vitae is standard practice in Australia too. Just about every high school graduate would know what it means, at least they do here. If you look in the paper/advertising etc., here they more often than not say “send full C.V. and References", even for fairly menial vacancies.

All it means, is one of those Latin terms for "course of one's life", or short Biography. Okay, so it's Latin, but no weirder than résumé, which is of French origin.

I guess I'll never understand. Those things are included in a typical resume, at least any I've ever had to do or see.

Hahahaha laughing because I had to print one of my bosses CVs out for reference fileing, his 29 page jobby make my piddly 2 page effort look :( but then I'm not a Dr and was always told that HR would have the attention span to read around two pages any longer and they would reside in wastebin.

CVs are pretty common place in the UK as well Phantom, most employers want to see them as part of their weeding down process, this can be harsh at times, candidates can be knocked back from even getting to interview stage by just having a poorly presented CV or one that looks like every other CV, these days to impress you have to be creative.... but not over the top.

SO back on track.... Sizzle what have you decided????? inquireing minds want to know ;)

  22. Sgt. Tibbs

    Sgt. Tibbs Ultra Geek

Even two pages is too many. A single-page resume should be enough to get you an interview, they can ask questions later.

Twenty-nine pages. What'd he do, list everything he's ever done, from boy scouts to singing in the school variety program in 3rd grade?

And yes, back on track (my apologies for sidetracking this one, but I just do NOT get it)...If your mom submitted your info to them, apparently she wants you to play video games for a living. Go for it!

As to back on track it was aimed at me more as I was waffleing, I liked your question Tibbs as I gives an idea of what the US and UK/others do when looking for work... great question.

29 pages, he's published many medical papers and does a load of research work, two pages seems to be the norm in the UK when you speak to recruitment gurus etc, also they like a covering letter to give blurb as to why you want the job and what you can offer them, the CV ( Resume ) is just the formal history stuff, mostly Education, Work History, Proffessional Qualifications, Names of Referees ( 2 usually ) and some Personal stuff.

But I agree with you, one page should be enough and your personality and interview questioning should be enough... as I said earlier you could have a crap CV adn not get an interview, even thou you could be perfect for the job, I have seen many who had great CVs but where useless when it came to the actual work involved.

Looks good if true! lol. I'd do it. I don't spend that much time on video games a week, but I could be talked into spending more . . . :p

  26. Phantom

Well the thing is, with the Résumé or C.V. thing. You don't send them the 'Full Monty' straight up. I just used to send them a two to four page thing to start with - 'cause most of the time it goes no further, anyway.

If it looks serious, then you do the full C.V., and of course, it's not much good without the wad of photocopies of References and qualifications.
But yeah, the length does vary a lot, depending on what it is.

    Now I own the company, so it's a non-issue. ;)
