I'm about to purchase a new video card for my PC. And would like some suggestions that will be compatible with my MB. My board is a MSI P7N 750i, and I currently have a GeForce 9800 512MB. Or maybe I should just get an additional 9800, and use th SLI tech????

I definetly wanna stay with nvidia, and somewhere.. in the neighborhood or 200 bucks is the price range. thanks for the help

Jeez man, $200 will get you a GTX460, way better than a pair of 9800GT's and will use less energy. Just make sure that your power supply is up to the task for either option. I like my my 460, takes anything that I throw at it.:)

I would be like Augie suggests and go with a new 460 as they are a superb card for the money you are going to spend.

I dont have a 460 but do have a GTX570 and the card is great, similar tech thats in the 460s.

Ok, so a 460 it is. and it will be compatible with my MB correct? I'm pretty sure it is.

The Evga card has more Video ram, 1 gig compared to 768 meg.

The msi card looks like it has a regular HDMI port where the EVGA has a mini HDMI port. (never seen a mini one so no idea the difference personally)

The MSI card comes overclocked, thus the higher core clock speed(750 vs 650)

The EVGA claims a 450W PSU is fine where the MSI says it wants a 500W PSU

Those seem like the biggest differences to me.

Id check those cards, or compare them over at newegg instead of Tigerdirect. ( i just personally like the service of newegg over Tigerdirect but havent had any major problems with either one, have had many parts from both places)

Tough choice, but i think id go evga just for the ram myself, although i do like MSI's quality(have an MSI HD 4850 card in my machine)

    Hi

Yes PCI-E 16x slot you have for the GFX card so that should be fine, the make of card well thats a personal choice at times, and the EVGA cards are good, the MSI may just pip them with quality.. though... personally I would punt for the EVGA.

I'm a fan of Gainward for some reason, love the build and quality of packaging they have, and not had issues with their cards. Just wonder will the extra 32mb of ram actually aid you, prehaps not in most real world scenarios so thr MSI looks good in this respect, but as its seems O/C'd it will result in higher temps so "maybe" so stability issues, depending on the rest of your PC and the temps you average.

Thanks for the info. My current card averages, 41. C -- 46 C. I actually just bought a 80MM fan at best buy for 12.99. So if there are any temp issues. I'll def. have it installed. I currently have a EVGA 9800. Maybe I should stick with a EVGA.

    Hi Lego

Yeah an extra fan will help, but only when placed in an optimal position and airflow direction, I have played with my desktop for best part of a year to check optimal fan positions and direction, have at idle CPU at 30c and GPU (a nvidia GTX570) at 40c, which is half the max temp on the gpu, so your 41 is ok the 460 will be a bit hotter.

So would need to give us/me a clear description of your case and the fan positions and directions to give advice on cooling and cable management is a crucial part of this.

I did research fans and ended up with as my case would allow 120mm Noctua Fans HERE good CFM for the noise.

But I agree good idea to stick to brands you are comfortable with and have had good service from, do let us know what you decide on.
