Why???? For legit reasons I presume
Do a google on nmap.
I have gotten my brother and mom online but am now trying to illistrate the dangers of not taking precautions with their internet service.
I would like to demonstrate to them what can be done quite easily if they release info such as their IP.
Such as their IP?
You can't sniff an IP remotely without going to great lengths (owning the network gateway and sniffing from there or owning an internal machine and ARP poising), although it does have dangers, prove it another way, this way is not technically correct.
nmap is a scanner not a packet sniffer.
This is considered by many as the Free Standard.
Link to: Ethereal is a free network protocol analyzer for Unix and Windows. It allows you to examine data from a live network or from a capture file on disk.
EtherPeek is the best packet sniffing software I've ever seen. I had a class on it at ITT Tech, and I'll have to give credit where credit is due... that is one powerful-ass program. It's just too bad it costs a fortune...
That is a port scanner not a sniffer, I may not, also not very good because it only checks certain ports and is full of FUD, the while point is moot because sniffing others packets is not that easy.
