i recently got into playing FPS games for the PC and i like halo, but it's too sci-fi, counter strike is too realist yada yada. i found world of padman, but haven't tried it yet, (don't know if it's even an FPS, TPS etc) are there any cartoon or cel shaded or hand-drawn games in the genre?

    any suggestions?

Orange box. Not for the different graphics, but because Portal is different in every other way.

sounds okay, not really what i'm after though. i'm hoping to find something more along the lines of a cartoon or whatnot...even one geared towards children, i don't care.

Team Fortress 2 and the next Battlefield game when it comes out.

You might try Warrock as well. Its fast paced, and somewhat noobish, but addicting and good competition.

you should try Bioshock, it has VERY high graphics requirements (that is, if you want it to look good) but it is very different from halo and the like. IMO, totally worth the $50 it costs to buy it

Um. No. If you want cartoony game that might be geared toward children, Bioshock is about one of the last FPS games I would recommend.

    oops....sorry...

but he was asking for "different" fps games, bioshock is "different" from many mainstream fps games

That one I'll definitely grant you. Though I would say that is is "better", not "different" ;)

No sci-fi... You might try the Might and Magic series, seven, eight and nine all have a very 'shooter' feel to them, but are pretty heavy fantasy. Mostly.

I say abandon the FPS genre altogether and go for some Lucas Arts games. Grim Fandango, Sam and Max, Psychonauts. They're old though so possibly hard to come by. Sam and Max Hit the Road is in the game shop I work in. I continually put it to the front to try encourage the all-american-war-game-players to play something good for a change but to no avail.

See if you can find a used copy of Duke Nukem! It's definitely cartoony looking, but definitely not for kids! I don't know if it will run in compatibility mode under Win XP. You might have to pick up a copy of Win98 or 98SE to be able to run it (or install and run Win 98 with some virtual machine software if you're up to doing that). It's a fun adult shooter, but with a cartoonish look. Duke Nukem fans have been waiting for years and years for the sequel to appear. Supposedly it's still in the works. I think it's been in development, passed from one group to another for about nine years now!
