Looking for Halo

    Hello Halo, I have installed the new AVA 8.0 anti-virus program.

    Near the end of the d/l I saw a note that it said some components were not installed and I would probably need them at some point and that I would need to install a security patch as follow: kb929547 vista patch for window 32 bit/62bit.

    When I started to install it I saw that, since I do not have an explorer tool bar I would have to use the; GENUNIE MICROSOFT WINDOWS to get the d/l.

    Sometime back I recall that alot of people was fussing about the Genuine Window program and they was trying to get rid of it.

    I see some discussion about this on a recent thread and I noticed your input.

    Can you give me your thoughts on whether or not the genuine program is safe and do you feel that I should use it and download the Vista security patch.

    That hoohaa on Genuine Windows was when WGA was released for XP, in Vista you dont notice it too much and if you have legal version of Windows then its no issue at all, ones moaning most likely had hooky copy!

    I when getting downloads direct off the MSFT site, have to click through the Windows Genuine advantage and its fine to do, especially in Automatic Updates doesnt install that KB for Windows Filtering Platform, do get that one.

    AVA 8.0 ??? would that be typo and AVG 8.0 ?


    I would make sure you have all MSFT updates for Vista as most should come via Automatic Updates, so click the start orb and in the start search box type Update and Windows Update shoudl show in list, click that and do a check for udpates and get all criticals, if any drivers are listed ignore them.

    It should be AVG not ava, eyes and fingers at 73yrs of age not quite as sharp.

    I checked the updates I have installed and I do have the automatic working, but this particular patch is not installed, so will install.
