I have read the information in numerous replies regarding Media Access as well as EDow.exe. I followed the instructions posted and did all of the scans recommended. I think that I have got rid of Edow because I am not getting anymore notices that it has encountered a problem. When I log off of my computer, I am still getting the warning about MediAccK.exe. I am very "Computer Stupid"! How do I tell if the problems are fixed? Any advise is greatly appreciated

Did you run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

If so, and you still have a problem, follow the steps below.

    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

Thanks for your reply. I have previously done all of the steps listed in the information you are referring to. I have now run Hijack this and saved the log file. However....stupid question.....I am having trouble finding how to post it as an attachment. I have read the FAQ and it says there should be a Browse button at the bottom of to post compostition page.I can''t seem to find that. Sorry to be such a bother!

    Hi ba177,
When you click post reply ...scroll down below the submit reply button. In additional options you should see a manage attachments button....click that and browse to your attachment...then click upload :)

Please follow directions! Notice how you are running HijackThis:
    C:\DOCUME~1\Diane\LOCALS~1\Temp\Temporary Directory 1 for HJT.zip\HijackThis.exe

You are running it from the ZIP file which I specified not to do. You must extract the executable program from the ZIP file into its own folder like c:\Program Files\HJT

You will not get any backups the way you are running it. You must fix this before continuing.

After addressing the HJT installation issue from my previous message, follow the steps below.

If you are using WinXP or WinMe, make sure you have system restore disabled (per the tutorial).
For all OS types, make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Please run HijackThis and click on the "Open the Misc Tools Section" button on the open page. Then select "Open process manager" on the left-hand side. Look for the following process (or processes) and one at a time kill them by selecting it and then click "Kill process". Then click yes.
    C:\Program Files\Media Access\MediaAccK.exe
    C:\Program Files\Media Access\MediaAccess.exe
    C:\temp\EDowPack.exe
    C:\temp\EDowPack.exe

After killing all the above processes, click "Back".
Then please click "Scan" and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {D80C4E21-C346-4E21-8E64-20746AA20AEB} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Media Access] C:\Program Files\Media Access\MediaAccK.exe
    O9 - Extra button: MUSICMATCH MX Web Player - {d81ca86b-ef63-42af-bee3-4502d9a03c2d} - http://wwws.musicmatch.com/mmz/openWebRadio.html (file missing)
    O16 - DPF: {15AD6789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} - http://static.windupdates.com/cab/DownloadAccess/ie/bridge-c9.cab

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
    C:\Program Files\Media Access <--- the whole folder
    C:\temp\EDowPack.exe

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST). Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.
Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log. And tell us how things are working.

    Did you forget this:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Media Access] C:\Program Files\Media Access\MediaAccK.exe

Do the steps in my previous message again that were related to this.
