I'm getting the upgrade itch again. I have a set of Logitech LS21 2.1 speakers and though they sound decent, I'm looking for something with some more oomph.

Looking to be around the $100 range. What do you have or suggest?

Speakers are something you need to decide for yourself if they sound good to you or not. Everyone's ear is a bit different. Newegg has 17 sets in the $75 - $100 price range. I would stay away from any that have more than 3 speakers (a sub and two satellites) in that price range.

It's so hard to get out and listen to speakers. Unlike home audio, which is hooked up for demos, computer speakers are seldom on display.

The only way that I've been able to listen to multi-media speakers is when I go to someone's house and listen to what they have.

The problem is that my friends usually have cheesier speakers than I do. That's how I'm able to upgrade. I sell my old ones to a friend after they hear my system. :-D

I'm mainly into music, but have a few games that would benefit from a better sounding system.

You are absolutely right. And even if they do have some on display, speakers never sound the same when you get them home into your environment. I've been into home audio many years longer than I've been into computers, and I've been working with computers since the mid 70's. Frankly, there is no such thing as high-end speakers for computers - not when good home theater speakers can easily cost $1000 or more - each! And those are not powered either (except for the sub-woofer). But, if you can accept that, you can get some acceptable computer speakers - though I don't think a $100 limit will get you there. But that's me.

If me, I would save your money until you can budget for something better than what $100 will get you. For stereo sound, you would be hard pressed to find something better than these. M-Audio has been making professional computer audio equipment for years.
