In the near future, I will be sending and receiving a lot of faxes from all over the US. I am interested in doing this as cheaply as possible.

I plan to fax documents already on my harddrive (mostly microsoft word and PDF documents). I would like to receive faxed documents in a PDF file, perhaps to my email account.

ClickFax Pro 1.3 says it is software to send/receive faxes over the Internet from any application. Does anyone have any experience with ClickFax Pro 1.3? Also, do you have any recommendations as to software to send/receive faxes over the Internet.

    Thanks!

You can send a fax for free to anywhere in the U.S. and Canada at http://faxzero.com/ . However, they slap their logo on your fax (e.g. place their Ad on the cover page). They offer $1.79 per fax costs, but I don't know whether that is cheap.

I'm still looking for that cheap fax system and am open to suggestions. Presently, I'm scanning in all documents and then emailing them, but that doesn't work in all situations.

I have been using V3Call Center for the past two years. Not only does it send and receive faxes, but it's a complete call center that includes voice answering machine.

    Here is the site: http://www.v3fax.com

    Hope this works

It doesn't appear on my installed copy of XP Pro.
Is it installed by default in XP or do I have to custom install it?

Using FaxFax provides you with complete fax facilities from your computer. You can configure fax settings, send and receive faxes, track and monitor fax activity, and access archived faxes. Using Fax, you can choose to send and receive faxes with a local fax device attached to your computer, or with a remote fax device connected to fax resources located on a network.

Fax is not installed by default during Windows Setup.

    To install the Fax component
Open Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.
    Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
In the Windows Components Wizard, select the Fax Services check box, and then follow the instructions on your screen.
    Notes

To open Fax after installation, click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to Communications, and then click Fax Console.
For more information on using Fax, click Help in Fax Console.

2 links that I came across while re-reading an old PC mag.

    http://tinyurl.com/2cgc3 (Fax by modem)

    and http://tinyurl.com/2tr2h (faxmail)

The last one plonks an advertisement on every fax sent, which is a downer.

Have never tried either so can't comment on how well they work or not. Bazza
