Since my laptop cant upgrade because of how dell does things and its a laptop im looking into upgrading my desktop its got what i want cause of the quad core but the integrated graphics just isnt good. Anyway heres the specs:
    Win7 64bit
    750gb HDD
    ati HD 4200 integrated 256mb
    athlon II X4 630 @ 2.8ghz
    4gb ddr3

now from what ive look at most cards require at least 400 watt supply which stock on the desktop is only 250 watts. looked on the web and people are saying you can get cards without upgrading the power supply but i think itll kill the computer. i was looking at the hd 6000 series with 1gb ddr3. So if i do get a graphics card im thinking i need a higher supply.

A solid PSU is the foundation of your build. It's the one thing you absolutely DO NOT skimp out on. The other side of the coin is that some modern graphics cards have to be plugged into the PSU, unless they solely draw their power via the PCI bus.

Are you planning to do any serious gaming, or just media like DVDs/streaming?

i put a 400w from my mothers since hers just needs 250w anyways but it seems when im doing something i hear the fan spinning up loud. depends if its really using the processor like gta4, WinAVI, after effects( i have 8gb ram now)

one thing not to forget is what power pins you need. for example main power connector. either 20 or 20+4. alos look near the cpu. which is the atx 12v. some use four six or eight. just make sure you get the right one that is compatible with your mobo. i have a corsair cx430. its got plenty of power

Of course you will get the noise "correlated with the load" you are applying on the PC. When gaming it will be loud.........damn mine is loud at idle but runs at 4.4GHz as well ;)
