I am so excited I can't keep it together anymore. This Sunday my boys fly out from England to visit us and will be here just short of three weeks. It will be their first time to the US, and we hope they fall in love with Oregon, as I have.

I haven't seen them for some months now so it's all very emotional. If I make any "out there" comments on MG this week please ignore me! HAHA. Normal service will be resumed shortly.

Do we have to ignore the " out there" comments, or can we snicker and make smart remarks?

I'm fortunate. I see my kids often. My oldest (daughter) lives in Kelowna, which is about a six hour drive. Middle (daughter) lives at home, but is following her boyfriend to Calgary in a month, which is a four hour drive, and youngest (son) lives in Vancouver, about ten hours. He's coming to visit in a couple of days to do some wakeboarding at the lake. Then he's taking the bus back, and leaving his car here for me to fix. Transmission problem. You see, they all drive beater cars so I'm guaranteed to see them once in a while. I don't charge labour.

Mine is a long story but I love them to bits, let them know that all the time and they are always welcome at our home anytime..they only have to call and we make it happen for them :)

The best BBQ tips I have heard lately are to spray cold water on the flames to stop the food burning or to throw a little salt into the coals to bring them down, ofcourse in America BBQ is an art form,I'll have to start a BBQ 101 thread to teach me :)

Pool :) ,In the uk we call those ponds,if your lucky, have you always lived in the US lev?If you dont mind me asking :)

Coals? HAHA..this is propane country Rikky ;)

And by pool I mean swimming pool in the back yard :) And no, I haven't always lived here, but I always will now :) This is home

Not into propane at all, doesnt give the food that smokie taste,I know what you meant, just a joke pools are a little harder to come by in the UK :D,I bet there are more pools in the us than ponds in the uk

Cool...they, and you, should have a blast!!!! Got any exciting road trips on the itenerary??

Curious to hear what they think of it here!!

About 5 years ago, me and a buddy went over to Alkenbary (spelling?) to see another buddy in the marines that was stationed over there!! Actually, we spent most of our time in Brighton, and a day or two in london, and ofcourse, went to see Stonehenge!! All in all it was an excellent time, and would go back in a heartbeat!!!! Hell...the roundtrip, nonstop flight on TWA was only $500.00 from St. Louis!!!

    Keep us posted!!!!

Told you I was losing the plot! I can't even remember to answer the questions in my last post

We are taking them to the infamous County fair; drift boating down the Mackenzie fishing; camping up some wild mountain; out to the coast to do some wierd sport on the sand dunes and visit the sea lions; BBQ's galore and many other things. I think it is the culture that will hit them as much as the different landscape. Being able to go out to Dairy Queen at midnight and choose your favorite ice cream is not a British thing at all. Neither is heading downtown to play basketball at one in the morning. It is going to be so much fun to watch them experience life here :)

Well, with all that stuff planned that's quite an experience. They probably don't want to go back. ;)Prayers with you and family during the excursions. :)

I would be so grateful if one of the UK/Londoners would please advise what the heck is happening now at Heathrow airport.

Live BBC news earlier said they are trying to clear the backlog of some 70~80k passengers but as some of its fleet are elsewere due to commitments they will be struggeling.

as rikki said the good comedy shows are only now seen in re-runs, nothing new to laugh at in recient months.. unless your cup of tea is Big Brotha[sic], endless how to sell, renovate, buy and new hosue, antique or garden.

Brit tv has gone to dogs sadly.

OMG....looks like I'd better pack some sandwiches before heading out to the airport then :(

I never watched TV in the UK in my last 2 years there, it was so boring. I heard Father Ted died :( I also read today on the BBC that Robin Cook has passed away. What's the feeling in the UK with Tony B not attending teh service? I know some have slammed him for it.

Thanks for the update Halo..you don't know how much I appreciate your help :)

Lev just watched a news update and they are talking of about 2 days to clear the flights backlog!!!!

yeah ol' Tony will get a right roasting in the sat/sunday press for not coming back for the funeral of Robin Cook, who was one of our better politicians, who actually stood up for what he thought was right.

If you've already left then I hope you have plenty of sandwiches ;)

Hope your sons make it ok and enjoy the USofA , have a great weekend.

    Lev MajorGeek

Thanks Halo. They are due in Sunday, so I've not left just yet ;) Hopefully things will be a little smoother for flying by then too.

Yeah, Robin took a lot of bashing in recent years for standing up for what he believed. If there was more politicians who did as he did, and lived the life he believed in, maybe they would overall have a better reputation for honesty. RIP Robin.

Got half way to Portland when the call came in that they were stranded in Chicago. At one point it looked like they were going to get re-scheduled to Seattle! What a nightmare...a 5 hour, two-way trip for us, but it turned out they are doing a detour via Colorado and getting in tomorrow to Portland now....hopefully.

I have been through every emotion possible today and am exhausted. I get to do it all again tomorrow!

Just wanted to thank you all for your support, but most of all your humour. It has kept me going this last few days/hours. You guys rock

I gotta hit the road...catch you later ;)
