    Hi

I have a win XP home OS. I have different user accounts set up.
Children accounts are restricted. I run McAfeee security suite.
Last week I noticed that while on a Parent account( admin rights) I was informed that I could not access a site due to restrictions of a certain child account. I thought it strange, but I am running a MS OS so no biggie? Wrong!

The next day I logged in and noticed my sytray was void of network icons etc. There were only a few oldies. McAfee, Clock and two others. When looking in control panel network etc. there was nothing. Also later I discovered the same for printers. I tried running a scan with McAfee but it starts up and then disappears. I then tried installing other demo's from AV fame, but then got told that I have no admin rights. I ran a Kaspersky online and no viri were found. When looking at user accounts In both normal and safe mode , I and the Admin accnt. has admin rights, but everything else behaves like a severely restricted account. I can still access Inet and some url blocking by McAfee is still observable. However I fear compromise of my data and pesrsonal info and logins while using the internet.

I suspect malware or malfunction of Win XP. :(

I have run Norman_Malware_Cleaner.exe form MG but the problem still pervails.

I do not have experience with keeping the system & data in tackt and removing such deviant software. :confused

    Please help.

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
    Notes:
    1. If you run into problems trying to run theREAD & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can run steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
