Lost desktop icons

ok, So I just installed a GTX 550 ti on a PC, and after installing the card, the resolution obviously changed to a low resolution.

The desktop was almost completely full of icons before the upgrade, and now a good 40-50% are missing from the desktop, but if I search in Users>active user>desktop, all of the icons and shortcuts are still there.

Also, the custom taskbar skin that was on this PC is now gone also, replaced with the old windows 98 skin :confused (on a windows 7 x64 pro machine)

The card is working perfect, all drivers installed and working, and is hitting 7.3 on the windows experience score.

So my question is, is there an easy way to restore everything that has been changed? especially the desktop icons? or must they all be replaced 1 by 1?

If you right click the desktop and select View>Auto Arrange Icons do you get all of your icons back?

 

nope, I tried that. it didnt bring back alot of the shortcuts. but someone on facebook suggested that I just copy/paste all the shortcuts and select "yes to all" when asked to replace them all. and voila, I feel like an idiot.

it's always the small things huh? :-D

I had something similar happen to me on a Windows 7 Professional (64bit) computer...

Have you tried a System Restore back to a SRP (System Restore Point) to a previous state which was initiated prior to installing the GTX 550 card?
