I have two computers side by side. I have a 2 link dsl modem & a d-link router. I had my main computer and my x-box plugged into the modem and the router also plugged into the modem and my second computer plugged into the router. Worked GREAT. This morning I decided since my hubby was using the second computer as his I would remove some programs I had on there that he would never use like ProxyWay, AIM, Yahoo instant messenger and stuff like that, nothing major. WELL low and behold after uninstalling these programs 2 link dsl modem shows not connected at bottom of computer. I called Bellsouth and they of course walked me through the same steps I had already gone through checking the IP and all if I do ipconfig /all I get an IP address, a subnet mask and NO default gateway. I have tried everything I know. I even reintalled proxyway because of it's set up you have to make sure of the settings before deleted it and nothing. When the computer first starts up the little red 2 is red and then it goes dark. Any help you can give me would be great. I even started it in safemode and nothing , restored defaults and nothing. I am running windows 2000 and there is no system restore option. I really do not want to have to reinstall windows and I am truly at a loss. You guys have always been able to help me.. HELP.
    thanks.

So computer #2 is the one that is getting no connection right? Since you uninstalled the software that was on it?

Another question, the DSL Modem has 1 port or 2 ports?

Also what is the model # of your router?

yup computer 2 no signal, route is a dlink DI-713P. Modem has four plugs and the computer gets no signal whether I plug it into the router or the modem directly. It is definately something I did that is causing no connection.

    1. Try unplugging the DSL Modem then plugging it back in.

If that doesn't work try the following

    Uninstall your network card drivers.

    1. Start
    2. Control Panel
    3. System
    4. Device Manager
    5. Network Adapters
    6. Right-Click on the Adapter and Select Uninstall

If the adapter has a red X then enter the properties and Enable it.

also, I do appreciate your help but it would seem that something I deleted has caused the computer not to allow internet explorer to connect. When I start the computer the red 2 wire is lit and then it goes out as the programs start to install. I have way too much stuff on here that I am going to have to move is I have to reinstall windows that it is stressing me out.

Just restart your computer and it will reinstall the network card drivers.

It didn't work. Again as I reboot the two wire lights up red and then goes instantly to grey.
