Lost my settings.

I really hope some one can help with this..

Yesterday I discovered another administrator account on my comp which I thought was very strange. In order to delete that account I created a new account. I managed to delete that account but in return I lost all my personal settings, my files, my faves, my desktop you name it.

I tried sys restore but that didn't help. I'm using XP pro. SP2

Can anyone help me restore my old settings?

 

Try logging back into your other admin account. As long as your original account wasn't deleted that should work. You aren't getting your settings because Windows XP, unlike Windows 98, creates custom settings for every user. All of you settings are stored in your original account.

(Note...you could have deleted that other admin account in your original admin account.)

 

My original account prompted me for a password which I never set up. The sudden appearence of 2 admin accounts makes me think I've been hacked. I really wasn't sure which was my original account.

 

Try a blank password in your original account.

 

I don't know which is my original account anymore. When I start in safe mode I can see 2 admin accounts. Is it possible I've been hacked?

 

one account is the one set up by windows,(when you first installed it.)
the second one is your account. it's normal to have two admin accounts.

 

I still don't know which is which and how to get my old settings back. The files and settings are in my comp, I can locate them I just don't know how to get it to work the way it did yesterday.
