lost os dvd

Hello Comrades!
I have purchased a new HDD for my XP media center edition 2005 but now I can not find the OS disk that came with the system. Now i'm in a bit of a pickle:-o. are there any down load sites or a cheap alterative to resolve this issue?? Many thanks. Dave

You should be able to get a set of restore disks from the computer manufacturer for relatively cheap ($20-30 usually).

 

They want $50. Seems like a lot of dough . Thanks Dave

 

That is on the pricey side! Sorry to hear they're overcharging you like that. Be sure to make a copy or two of them to ensure you don't ever need to replace them again.

 

If your old HDD is still functioning OK you could clone it to your new HDD using an imaging program, such as Acronis ($$), or Easeus Todo (free), or any of a number of free disk cloning utilities..

 

A MIRACLE ! bless my wife. She found them (OS disk) stuck in with her John Dever CD....would have never looked there in a million years. Ok Problem 2 > The used HDD I bought to replace the broken one was never wiped clean. Old user name and no pass word? How now do I proceed? . i would like to eventually use my MCE. Great! It'd still be a good idea to make copies of them, I think.

You should be able to boot from your OS disk and choose to reformat the hard drive before installing MCE, which will clear everything that was on it.
