lost partition

Good evening,
Im perplexed; I had a dual boot working, windows and linux, for four months now. Just today I lost the linux OS. Where do I look to find it,if it still exists? I had 30G for windows partition and 10G for linux partition all on my C drive.I cant boot into linux anymore. It doesnt even give me the screen for the options. I never did see the linux partition before,, I guess I didnt know where to look.So what would be my next step on the learning curve?

does windows see the partition in My Computer? It should see it as another 'drive' with a drive letter, but would appear unformatted unless you installed a program that lets windows see ext2/3 formatting.

 

I dont have any indication of another drive or partition. I dont remembering ever seeing it. non theless Ihad mepis6.0 on a 10G partition and in use.confused. I wonder what happened.

 

do you see the partition in Disk Management? (start>run 'diskmgmt.msc')

you might have to rebuild grub (the boot loader) to get back into linux. Another option, since Mepis used Ubuntu as its core (until their recent switch back to Debian), you can use wubi to install ubuntu through windows, and avoid Grub altogether (wubi lets Ubuntu, Kubuntu, or any buntu variant use windows Boot.ini file and MBR to boot.) http://wubi-installer.org/
