Lost when it come to Facebook.

I'm a total newb when it comes to Facebook. I'd like to see what MajorGeeks giveaways are so I click on the link "TWO giveaways on Facebook today!" which opens up Facebook. I login and search for MajorGeeks but all I get is its wikipedia website description. I've searched for MajorGeeks fan page and get a Bing result but when I click on it it takes me back to my Facebook home page.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for the reply. Something's still wrong. When I click the link you posted it flashes up in the address bar for a second then takes me to Facebook login page. If I'm already logged in and have it open on my facebook homepage and click the link or the 'Facebook' link on www.majorgeek.com it does the same thing. I type in MajorGeeks in the Facebook search and get:

It sounds like your PW isn't saving through multiple sessions, it's either a problem with your cookies or a problem with how you're logging in to facebook.

I attached the box you need to make sure you check, which "Should" alleviate the problem. If it does not it's your browser and we'll need to know which one you're using to help you fix the problem (IE8, Chrome, Firefox, Safari)

 

Using Firefox 3.6.17. Removed facebook out of the exceptions of remember PW so that works okay, but still when I click on MG facebook link get thrown back to my f/book homepage. Have tried Adblock & NoScript both enable & disabled and still happens.

 

I still haven't been able access the MG fan page. Have noticed that the page that shows the MG logo (http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/Majorgeeks/195433377138533) only has 91 Likes. Not many. Perhaps I'm not the only person having difficulty. I have been able to access Facebook pages for GizmosReviews, CNET, alternativeto, dotTech and many more just by clicking on the (F) logo or other link they may have. If I copy & paste the link from Sgt Tibbs I end up with " Did you mean:facebook pages majorgeeks 161472400537054
No results found for your query." No joy

 

Just tried using Internet Explorer and Opera instead of Firefox. Same thing happens.:cry

 

That's just really weird. There should be 2,389 likes (as of right now).

Try telling it yes, that's what you meant. The profile number you copied above is the one for the page.

Or, if you go to the page you found and scroll down past the Wikipedia stuff, the first post is from the actual MG page. Click on the MG user name and it will take you to the right one.

 

I experience the same effects as FtMindr. Also some users had the same problem to start with: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=224503 I wonder if it is country specific. I always get my FB home page and searching only picks up the Wikipedia FB page which has no posts.

 

But can you click on the user name on one of the posts from the real MG page on the Wikipedia page and get there?

 

I cannot see the real MG Facebook page as clicking the FB link 161472400537054
takes me to my Facebook home page, even manually typing or searching fails. On the Wikipedia MG Facebook page at 195433377138533 there are no posts and only 92 "likes".

 

I wouldn't be too quick to assume that the problems are with your machines or software. A few weeks after I joined FB they locked me out for more than a month because I wouldn't give them a mobile phone number. I don't have a mobile phone, but even if I did, I'd be wary of giving the number to FB or anyone else.
One day, without explanation or apology, my account was open to me again.
Facebook is a law unto itself. It bestows blessings and curses at whim.

 

As Maxwell said, '...only picks up the Wikipedia FB page which has no posts.' I have only had the Facebook account for a few weeks and I also have not activated a mobile phone mainly because.... I don't own one.:-o:-D

I'm in Australia and my Facebook email is via a UK email service, but I can't see that that would have anything to do with it.

 

It does seem that it's people outside the US who are having trouble with it, mostly UK. You wouldn't think that would make a difference, but I guess it must.

There is certain content, from certain sources, that due to internet stipulations of which you and I are not aware, because we have lives, that some international content is banned from view in one country or another even though the content wouldn't generally qualify as something you'd consider banworthy.

The biggest example of this you can find is when you search Youtube for something and it tells you that the content you've found is not viewable in your country of origin.

I have no idea WHY.
