I did a search through the forums about lost passwords and I didn't see anything new from 2006 so my apologies in advance about this post if there is an answer I didn't find.

Somehow, our company Prez's laptop lost its connection to the domain. He cannot log onto the domain so I asked him to login into his desktop but, of course, he doesn't remember the admin login. We've tried the standard admin and administrator logins without a password and every admin passsword we can remember. Still no luck.

Booting into safe mode doesn't allow us to login either.

I hoping that by now someone out there has developed a utility to CD that will allow us to log in to his local machine so he doesn't lose everything with a new Windows install.

    I hate computers.

    Hi Dave,

If you have a Windows XP cd there is a loophole that will allow you to reset the administrator password after you do a repair install. The exact instructions are here --> http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/pub0009/LPMArticle.asp?ID=305

Let me know how it goes! I had a similar problem recently and that worked like a charm for me :)

    Hey Adam,

Thanks for this info. I wanted to try it but the owner was scared about the repair part so he chickened out. However, we found this link http://www.lostpassword.com and paid the $45 and it worked like a charm. I don't know if I'm allowed to post others utilities like this but it sure did the trick.

    Thanks again Adam.

Oh no problem glad you found a solution. Just so you know though following that tutorial I posted doesn't adversely affect the computer at all :)

I am definitely keeping your post for future reference. $45 is not prohibitive but $0 is infinitely better.

    thanks,
