    Local Disc C:
    Used Space- 65.1 GB
    Free space- 5.53 MB

    1. Disc Cleanup
    2. CCleaner
were run but still "Low Disc Space" message appears with only above free space.

    Local Disc D:
    Used Space- 83.4 GB
    Free Space- 84.1 GB

How can I increase the Disc Capacity in Local Disc C?

Right-click the drive icon and click Properties. Then, click Compress Disk Space then Apply. You can do the same to individual files and folders, also. I recommend using WinMount. It works better in the compression ratio. Just Google it. BTW, I'm currently working on my own compression technique. It needs to be debugged and is no where near ready to use, but right now, it's doing exceptional. I hope this helps. :)

BTW, if you want to compress removable media, WinMount can be useful. I use it on all my Win11/64 floppies, and it helps a lot. :)

You've got a ton of free space on D...

Are C and D separate hard drives - or are they two different partitions on the same physical drive? If the former, then consider moving all (or a bunch) of your data from C to D. If the latter, you can use a free partition software like Minitool Partition Wizard to expand the size of C and shrink D.

If you are set on file compression, I would focus on compressing bigger files / infrequently used files or file types.

I just checked. If you want to compress a folder or individual file, you need to press Advanced... on the properties dialog box.

I would use the disk clean-up first that should pick up a few bits and let that clear and then run the disk compression that will create more space but it will slow your computer down as the files will be compressed and also it will take a while for the main drive to be compressed so you might have to do that while the system is not in use.

Right-click the drive C icon > click Properties > click Compress Disk Space > Apply

The above increased the Disk Space in C up to 13.4 GB

C and D are two different partitions on the same physical drive.

I will consider using a free partition software like Minitool Partition Wizard to expand the size of C and shrink D.

The following are the contents of the C Drive
    Folders
    AdwCleaner- 1.23MB
    PerfLogs- 0 bytes
    Program Files- 1 GB
    Program Files (x86)- 3.13 GB
    swsetup- 28.7 MB
    Users- 2.93 GB
    VTRoot- 4.9 MB
    Windows- 26.9 GB

    Documents
    #0eScanProtected- 13 kB
    #1eScanProtected- 13 kB
    bootsqm.dat- 4 kB
    History- 0 kB
    Rescued document- 56 kB

All of the above totally require about 34 GB. Therefore another 31 GB should be free space. However, it is only 13.4 GB after C Drive Disk Space Compression. Any explanation for this?

Just chiming in to add... Minitool is very easy to use. But whatever you do, please be sure to FIRST make backup's of your data files - to a seperate drive like an external drive or USB flash drive or SD card, etc. Cheers.

No need for any confusion over what is using up disk space - just download Treesize Free. If you then need help knowing whether it would be safe to delete stuff, just ask.

When Treesize Free is run, the following message appears:

    Error
This programme does not support the version of Windows your computer is running.

My version of Windows is Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1

I will try MiniTool Partition Wizard 12.6 (Free) to expand the size of C and shrink D.

Oh, sorry 'bout that. HERE's the version for Win 7

Do be sure to download the right version as there are two download links on the page. Use the lower one.

MiniTool Partition Wizard 12.6 (Free) also did not work.

In: Move/resize partition- partition handle could not be moved towards unallocated space or manually define unallocated space before or after the partition.

    Extend partition-
    Notice
Operation "Ressize partition" cannot be completed beacuase drive D: is being used now.

Please choose one of following options:
    A) restart your PC and Mini Tool Wizard will automatically finish rest of the pending jobs. -> A Blue screen appears and keeps on restarting
    B) Close other programmes and click "Retry" button to continue -> This message keeps on appearing
    C) Cancel the operations -> which I finally did.

The problems are arising because you are running a seriously out of date OS. Make sure anything you try to install is compatible with Win 7.

re Partition Wizard you will first have to shrink D and then move it to the end of the disk. You will then be able to expand C. However do use Treesize first as this should resolve your space problem without having to mess about with partitions.

    On running Treesize,

28.1 GB (Actual Size 31.4 GB)- Windows- 50.4%
16 GB (Actual Size 27 GB)- ProgramData- 28.7%

91.9% of Program Data is from Comodo- 14.7 GB (Actual Size 25.1 GB) which I think is huge.

Anything I can do about it?

If Comodo uses that much space you should replace it.

As Eldon says ^^. Or use Partition Wizard to shrink D and expand C, as discussed.

Something definitely wrong with Comodo. If you are using Win 10/11 - just uninstall it. Window's own built-in antimalware is more than good enough. But if using older (non-supported) Win 7, etc. - either uninstall/reinstall Comodo - or find some other free alternatives. Plenty of choices right here on MajorGeeks.

If you still have low hard drive space, try moving some stuff to removable media. I use a lot of floppies and compress them with WinMount. It helps. :)

I need to move about 23 GB data. How many floppies do I need? Where can I buy the floppies at a good price?

Too many. You might want to try a flash drive instead. There are flash drives that can store all your data without compression. You can use 7Zip or WinMount to compress the information on the flash drive. 7Zip provides better results, but WinMount can allow you to access the contents of an archive as a drive or folder. Unfortunately, WinMount can only mount one archive at a time, and the archive file can't be more than 20MB. There is an option to register WinMount, but the link is broken. :(

Years ago when I was running either Win 3.1 or 95, I wanted to make a set of backup floppies. My husband thought I was crazy when I bought 100 floppy disks. Then he saw what I was doing with them.
I had to "restore" putting in 1 floppy disk at a time. Boy was that tedious. Long about floppy #56 or there abouts, it reported it couldn't read it! I think I contacted either Packard Bell or HP to see what I could do. I got it sorted out. I think they mailed me some sort of CD. NEVER AGAIN!
I don't wax nostalgic about the early days of owning a computer.
Give me a portable external hard drive and plug and play computers.

Nowadays... even tiny microSD cards have capacities up to 1TB. That's 697,545 floppy disks @ 1.4 Megabytes each, correct?

I need more coffee before I can confirm. :p

As I mentioned this to my husband, he said, "think how many days/weeks/months it would take to do a backup on that many floppies"! Can you image trying to store 697,000 floppies?

    After
    1. Decompressing Disk Space in Disc C and
    2. reinstalling Comodo Firewall
    Local Disc C:
Used Space- 43.8 GB (Previously 65.1 GB)
Free space- 21.3 GB (Previously 5.53 MB)

It has solved the Low Disc Space Problem.

How about using Partition Wizard to shrink D and expand C?

I partitioned my SSD into three drives for OS, apps and data. Google and read up on the advantages of separating the three... or at least separating out data. Great that you've got C drive solved. You now have plenty of options - including leaving well enough alone.

I have allocated C drive OS, D drive to apps and Removable drive for data. I will leave this arrangement as it is without messing about with partitions.

Thanking all of you for your time, effort and advice.
