Low on Virtual Memory???

I dont know if this is a problem or not but I thought I'd throw it out here.

My computer is only 5 months old, it is a Compaq Presario and I have Win. XP home edition in it. I have an upgrade of 128 memory card.

Now when I am online sometimes a little window will pop up on the lower right corner saying the computer is low on virtual memory and is upgrading it.
Why does it do that?
Is it a problem?
Should I worry about it?

Does someone know?

 

Hi, its not a BIG problem, but it can get in the way... k... what you do is:

On your desktop, right-click on "My Computer", goto "properties" then the "advanced" tab... then click on Setting under Performance, then the advanced tab. then go to the virtual memory settings called "Change". one question, how much space do you have left on your Hard Drive??? If you have at least... oh, i'd say 4GB left, click on the hard drive thats has the "4GB" and set the option to CUSTOM size, set the inital size to 128MB, the max to 512... hope this helps!!!!

PS: Virtual memory is the ammount of hard-drive space reserved for what the PC sees as memory

 

128mb of ram is not sufficient for XP, especially if the computer is OEM and has OEM crap installed.

Low virtual memory message means that both your ram and the size of your pagefile.sys(swap file) are insufficient for the memory load you are commiting to.

So Windows XP gives that message and increases the size of pagefile.sys to compensate.

 

I'm having the same problem [intermitantly] with a gig of ram...what's the solution? My settings are at the largest allowable.
