Which mouse uses the least power from the notebook battery? I got a Logitech MiniMouse from Walmart for my Centrino laptop, and whenever that thing is plugged in, my cpu runs at it's full speed ALL the time, and gets hot. Yanking that mouse out the USB port lowers my megahertz to 130-300 while idling. I spent the extra money for a Pentium-M processor to save on battery life, I'd rather have a mouse that does not cancel it out (This thing kills my battery within an hour!)

Any experiences with USB/PS2 mice on battery life would be greatly appreciated. Are all USB mice going to drain my battery? I know ps2 doesn't use as much power, but you can't really hotswap ps2 devices safely, so I'd still prefer USB. Plz give me your experience w/ this issue.

    Thanks,

Have you got the latest drivers? Since its Centrino, ill presume your using XP. You checked the task manager? (thats Ctrl-Shift-Esc, by the way). And find out what process is eating up those cycles.

my threades and processes number stays the same whether the mouse is unplugged or plugged in. ~30 processes, ~300 threads.

its my cpu speed that changes, just sitting here typing on a web page normally would see my cpu speed at about 200-300 mhz just using the touch pad. with the mouse plugged in, my cpu speed stays at its max, which is 1402 mhz. I'm using TinyResMeter from www.tinyapps.org to determine my cpu speed btw.

under the processes tab on my task manager, everything is 00 or 01 under the CPU column, except for System Idle processes which is 99. Yes, I have updated my drivers, etc etc.

    thanks for the response,
