Low Resource Avti-Virus?

i am searching for the lowest-resource-using free anti-virus. Which uses fewer resources AVG, Avast or Avira? No one ever mentions PC Tools (w/ its partner threatfire (for heuristic protection)) This is free too. Is it any good? DOes it use many resources? Avast seems to have SO MUCH going on, all the time. Two icons in the taskbar; is that necessary? Desireable? I know someone out there will answer all my questions. In advance, Thank you.

I personally use AviraAntiVir.Good protection and using something like 11MB RAM at the moment.
Have tried PCTools,with and without ThreatFire. Not bas good as Avira and ThreatFire was always a nagging SOB.
Avast does seem to me to be a resource hog,compared to Avira.

Wow! thanks folks. I guess you figured out it was my first post (it was that obvious? was it my lack of facility with emoticons? or do you just watch the postings and know them all by heart? Wait . . . maybe there is a record showing how many postings I've made. Hey, I figured it out!). That was a very nice welcome. Very thorough answers, complete with links. One final question. The one that actually lead to all this . . .

I now use AVIRA which seems ok resource-wise, but it has this ANNOYING pop-up that is not internet based. It just pops up over whatever I'm doing to advertise the pro version--even when i'm not on-line. Before I switch to Comodo, is there a way to simply shut off this annoying 'gift.'

 

mine avast 4.7 almost 1 yr used no probs and very low on resources i look in the process manager
