low virtual memory

I have had a message come up from windows saying my virtual memory is low,does this mean my computer is dying or is there something i can do?I am completely computer illiterate and need simple explanations. I posted this msg in the wrong area before,sorry about that. I am sure someone can help me so thanks in advance-Elceeh

 

No you are quite safe, but probably have opened too many windows at once.

Restart the pc and then don't open so many programs at time.

If the problems persists or you want to upgrade post some pc specifications, so we can advise.

 

Despite common suggestions to use a 'fixed' page file, most users do fine with "System managed size."

Navigate: Control Panel>System>Advanced tab. Press the top Settings button, and again choose the Advanced tab. Here, click the "Change" button at the lower right.

Make sure your local (systemroot) disk is highlighted in the top window. (usually C:\) and then mark the 'radio button' in front of System managed size. Press the Set button and OK all the boxes.

You will be offered the opportunity to immediately reboot. Whether now or later, the next boot will result in the change.

Most home users find this to be completely fine. Set and forget. If you continue to receive "Low virtual memory" warnings after making this change, it means that your disk is overfull and there is not enough room for the needed page file. Space would have to be made to allow Windows room for the page file.

 

Also trim down what you have running at start-up. Only run what is important. Anti-virus, firewall, anti-spyware, and any necessary apps, like sound card software. Start all others manually.
