Mac vs Dell laser printer--help!

I am a mobile notary and need to download and print both letter and legal sized docs. Dell told me that their 1710 would work with my G4, but that I'd need dual trays. Well, I've owned since January and still can't use it. It will print letter sized docs, but not the legal. Legal pages start by always jamming on the first page and then the first third or so of the page does not get printed. I've spoken to India over 3 hrs. with no satisfaction. Dell techs blame it on my Mac and suggest I call Apple. I borrowed my neighbors pc the other day and was able to print both sizes, but I had to manually switch paper sizes back and forth in the first tray. Nothing comes from tray 2. I'm tempted to just buy an old XP pc, so I can get back to work. I am very frustrated and confused. Best buys geeks are willing to come out for $150, but I don't have much faith that they'd even beable to make it work and I'd be out even more money. I'd appreciate any and all suggestions.
