Macrium Reflect: Does It Choose Mbr Or Gpt?

I image using Macrium Reflect (free) for BU but if I wanted to clone a drive, say an OS drive, would Macrium decide which boot type according to what drive I clone to?

In other words, if my boot drive is SSD and GPT, but I clone to external HDD, does Macrium clone to HDD making that drive MBR? I don't see why it would since you can use either boot type on HDD or SSD. A clone should be an exact copy.

If I deleted partitions but didn't wipe the whole HDD I presume the previous boot type still exists. To change the boot type I'd need to: a) wipe the whole drive or b) clone to the drive, b/c I believe cloning overwrites the boot type using source boot type.

    Thank you.

Exactly. A clone is an copy of the original, with minor adjustments (if needed) to accommodate the target drive. Read this knowledgebase article for more information:

The big deal is the 2TB limit on MBR partitions. If the source partition is MBR and the target partition is larger than 2TB, then Macrium Reflect will have no choice but to convert the target partition to GPT.

OK that must be the reason it changes boot type. (Light bulb goes off.)

    Thanks for the link.
