As I stood in the middle of our Magnolia pruning away, the perfume from the crushed leaves and stems was absolutely gorgeous. my first thoughts were of TEECEE and Mims :wave. Then wondered if there was someway of capturing it. Anyone got any ideas
Unfortunately I don’t have access to a still.

Ahhhh, That was a good one Tony! LOL I already have 4 Magnolia trees in my yard... I do enjoy them too.. I don't think you can bottle that fragrance..... It is much more enjoyable in real life... Do yours have the pretty pink flowers too? Mine are all pink... :-D

I am glad you are enjoying your Magnolia's too. ;) Mine are getting ready to go to sleep for the winter..... ;)

Mine is a Magnolia Soulangeana, its about 30 foot high abou 20/30 feet spread. in the spring its covered in beautiful deep purple tulip shaped flowers. Christmas time I put about 3 or 4 strings of lights in it

Oh, they sound beautiful, but are a lot older than mine.. Mine are 8 years old, and about 8 feet hi... They are also Soulangeana... Maybe the flowers will darken with age, I don't know :confused i do know one thing, they are beautiful.

I'll bet you get some really nice seed pods from yours ;) I seen some in Mississippi years ago and fell in :heart with them, so I do baby mine ;)

Working in the garden one morning when our local vicar past, she stopped and smiled, isn’t gods work beautiful. Unfortunately I had just got on the wrong side of a stinging nettle, and without hesitation frowned, you should have seen it when he had it to himself :-D

TEECEE I thought a beautiful intelligent lady like yourself would have recognized the fact that I just love to wind people up. :-D Never, in a month of Sundays would I even dream of insulting or demeaning someone I have come to look on as a friend :wave

I have 3 Delavaye myself the size of TonyH and bigger and one little sprout that I want to move to the front of the yard. My problem are those fuzzy tailed RATS they call squirrels here. They start eating the buds before they have a chance to open.GGRRR All that is left are the ones at the very top of the tree.:confused Mine have a sweet citrus fragrance to them and a hairy bud as well.
Teecee and Tonyhale your blooms are just gorgeous. Do yours have the same sent?

    Hi Bigtrucks.
I think have the remedy to your squirrel problem. You need to insert/apply one ounce of lead to the little darlings left, “yes left” ear preferably with a twelve bore.

Yes, BT, my Magnolia's have a lovely fragrance when they first open.. It doesn't last long, but it is nice ;)

I am more of a geranium person myself... though in my yard the only things that bloom and spread lovely fragrance is rose bushes. They are my back yard babies... I prune them, cut off the dead heads, and fertilize and water them all year long. They are beautiful, and they smell heavenly. :)

One of the most fragrant roses I ever had was an old fashioned hybrid tea called Wendy Cussons, beautiful but prone to black spot.
Mims, Have you tried using dried blood as a fertiziler on you roses.

No, but I do occasionally mix used coffee grounds into the soil around the roots. They seem to like that. :)
