lol, i'm pretty bad at tribes though, a while back when the game came out my friends and i played by we were never any good but majorgeeks server has the best people.

About base raping, it's pretty bad. But it's a great way to build skill because you gotta kill them with nothing special.

As for the day or two when team damage was, that was horrible. Yet it got rid of base raping. But everytime you accidentally kill a teammate, theres a vote to kick and people generally get pissed pretty quickly.

maybe some way to give temporary invincibility, like 2 seconds or something when you spawn? (i think that mortar thing works, i don't really know though)

edit: btw, are scripts legal?? (as in good playing etiquette)

Some scripts are fine for good playing etiquette... hell, for some things its a neccessity!
Do not let anyone fool you that scripting is cheating ... most games these days are designed to allow player influence. It gives the community the opportunity to enhance game-play well beyond the designers' initial forethought. Furthermore, scripts are able to make 'general use' functions not so redundant thus easing the gaming relationship between you and others.

For instance, get a quick load out script ... no one wants to sit there and wait for yer arse to spend 10 seconds hand picking your load out ( i can die 5 times in 10 seconds). A quick load out script will auto-buy whatever you need without actually entering the inv screen with a push of a mapped key (and you can drop neccessary items at the same time).

Tribes' scripters have come up with 100's of scripts ... of that 99% were engineered to better gameplay.

Granted, there is that .01% which screwed up a lot of things ... the real cheats (happy, wall hack, polating, etc). But you almost had to know somebody who knew the sister of somebody whom dated their 3rd cousin whom knew the other body that designed the damn thing to get ahold of the script. They were worth their weight in EBay gold back in the day. These cheats are not as wide spread now as most people think. And with the decline of Tribes 1 and the fallout of the T1 Vets who designed the damned cheats, its not near as influential as it was back in the LADDER days.

There has always been, since the day of its existance, wether or not the Flag Waypoint script (either friendly or enemy) is considered a cheat. I believe by OGL/TW (ladder) rules, this was illegal, but there was no way of finding out if someone was using it unless demos of matches were required per contestant.

To me, I do not find it cheating in PUB games... however for ladder matches, I would say yes. But your talking 2 different things there. In ladder matches your playing on a team, YOUR team and you have played with them a 100 times before and you know the whole routine through practice, there is no need for waypointing because you already know whats going to happen, play has been pre-designed.

On the other hand tho, in PUB matches you don't know anyone. Yeah you seen some before, played with some before, but your not all in the same squad (Tribe) together. As chaotic as PUB games are, anything that can make the game a bit more seemless is always welcomed, and that includes being able to waypoint to your newfound friend 'Flag Capper' to ensure he makes it home safe. Likewise, to ensure you will hunt down the bastard who took your flag. All this script is doing in PUB games is moving the game along, eliminating stagnating 'map corner flag carriers' scenarios. This has since almost been virtually eliminated whereas any competant Tribes player knows to not turtle and keep the flag in the playing field except to repair.

visuals (trans, purple mortar, reticles, and that kick most assed missile trans blue disc, cant play without it)

Props to Zear, Cowboy, PJ, Poop, Dox (KPace for an immaculate config, even tho it was hard as shit to make it work, i dont use it)

That's what causes some of the problems on a pub. There are the individuals who want the top score on a map, not a 'win'. They don't care if they are capped out, just that they have the most points.
I think we need some 'in house' clans, so that we play with our 'team', even if it is a pub. I'd sign up for Pilky's Pubbers... Get the teamwork aspect into the game on a pub, so the new players get a taste of that part of the game.

OMG stop crying and learn how to defend your base. You already have damn thing noobed up with no-TD geez. Learn to deploy or HD, the whole thing is no one wants to defend the base. Sometimes I get in there and just defend and the base is never taken. But if i decide to go O bam base is gone, heh you have to expaect that noobs dont want to defend.

 

Well, I believe it is time for new admins also to keep the server going. I was kicked about 6 times tonight with no warning. If someone is doing something morally or ethically wrong that is one thing, but kicking people for the fun of it is a little retarded.

I'm prone to jump on the anti-base **** band wagon. Back in the day base raping was fine with me because Heavy armor offense wasn't as common, or efficient, as it is now. Ya know, new techniques allow for faster skiing better more efficient ways of killing. It's just not fun to be blown away ALL the time and spend and entire map repairing. It is a game and it's meant to entertain and be fun. You tell me to 'get serious and erect some kind of defense or just go naked,' but none of that works when you're enemy is fully outfitted and using advanced tribesplayer techniques. I don't mind having unfair teams, the randomization helps. As I see it, the fact of the matter is that Heavy armor Offense hepls to make the game worse than better.

GTPoompt, about your 2 second spawn immortality, map-makers can edit the scripts on each individual map and making players who spawn invincible for 2 seconds is possible, but I think it would make all the maps client-side. So, you'd have to redownload all your maps, manually. I may be wrong.

Do you play any other games, Kodo? I appreciate your view.

 

I wouldnt want there to be no ****, but just make it a tad tougher to do so, so it wouldn't effect game play so heavily, i'v had a few different ideas to balance things out a bit more but i have lost contact with server admin so it doesnt look like that will be happening.

 

Ahh,the words of a old school Tribesman. I am playing Tribes Vengeance right now. It was 19.00 at the store so I picked it up. I don't like it nearly as much as 1 or 2 mainly because they UT'd the game play. Small maps etc make it feel like arena smash and grab. I grabbed some old school maps but no one is running them. The renegades mod should be coming out soon though.

Aside from Tribes V. I am going to start playing Planetside again. I fookered up though. I forget to take off my account from COH and the bastards charged me for another 3 months (non-refundable).. so I have to wait another three months before I can go to planetside again with the add-on. To me, Planetside had the Tribes 1 team play feel to it. I can't wait to hop in the game again!

 

I posted in this thread earlier, and I gotta say I understand and agree - to an extent - with nearly everyone's point of view. I've been playing T1 since March 1999, and of course I've seen the entire evolution of the game (i.e. "OMG, how can a heavy move that fast?", etc.). Constant base trashing can be frustrating, but I've been in many a game - on MajorGeeks included - where a determined few defenders can make the difference, hold off the baddies, and make the game enjoyable for everyone. As many of you mentioned before, Tribes is the ultimate team game and unfortunately a lack thereof can make pubs somewhat unenjoyable. Having said all that, MajorGeeks seems to be the only server I ping well from here in the U.K. and has a decent number of players on at all hours of the day/night. I'd hate to see it go...

I've played a mod before where this happens: Ultra_Renegades base, I think it's called. Players get a couple of seconds of invincibility every time they spawn, and I've never had to install any surplus maps.

 

Well, I guess I'm one of the noobs, as someone mentioned, who play on the CG server.

I started playing Tribes about a year ago, when a friend got me into Ultra_RenegadesVX5 straight away. So I played this mod for ages, and only a few weeks ago did I even try base. Since VX5 and base are so different (VX5 is super-fast and you can stay in the air indefinitely in it), base is like a whole new game to me.

Still, I'm learning base pretty quickly, and can pull off some pretty neat MAs every once in awhile.

Anyway, I just wanted to ask - are there ever clan matches in base anymore?

Yeah, r-a-p-e is annoying but if its possible i suppose its allowed. MajorGeeks is the best server on tribes ive seen. Im fairly new but gettin the hang of it ok.. All the other servers seem to be over modded and only those familiar to it can do well making it pretty unfair. I prefer the base myself so MajorGeeks is always my first choice if not full..

Although voting is extremely difficult on the server because theres alot of noobs who dont know how or people that just dont care .

 

Ok new to the forum, 1st post.
Looks like I'm not alone, but I to have been playing tribes since day 1 (there where no air shots being done!!) . After spending about 2 years playing (skipping many meals, and losing alot of sleep) I stopped playing. After playing other games off and on I found myself back on Tribes. I've noticed the only base server that really has people playing on it is MajorGeeks.com's server. Well after getting locked out all the time I decided to throw up my own server (as I see others are as well).
I tried to mirror the MajorGeeks server so that any left over players may jump on it. My server is named "MajorGeeks full? Try here" (had to get it noticed somehow). I have only 1 difference in my zadmin mod, it does not announce admins, or name them. Meaning that instead of "I_SucK was kicked by ***" all you see is "I_Suck was kicked". So anyways I hope to see some people on there. Mostly I just wanted to help keep some nice servers up and running.

 

Just because it's possible doesn't mean it's allowed. If that were the case, we would all have been subjected to chaos on a new level.

If I see ra-ping repeatedly, I will kick that person with extreme prejudice.

 

Hey I was playing a couple hours ago, everything was fine it was snowblind. The usual mortor spawn spam but what can you do. I love light so i just hit the station and went off. I normally duel in front of the enemy base, im not a capper. I only entered the base once and was imediatly burned to a crisp by a heavy. By the end of the match (our team dominated in aboou 15 minutes) we had won and I got about 12 kills. Then a player named SomebodyUgly came on and began banning people for no reason. I ended up getting banned as well. Are any of my actions worth banning? and if not can i have it removed, because Major Geeks is like the only base server left.

PLEASE UNBAN ME!!!!!

 

If you'd actually read my post you'd've learnt that this person was banning everyone.
