Major PC troubles

    Hello everyone, I have an extreme problem, I can't see any icons, my taskbar, and I can't right click. I can see the wallpaper my sister put up (Ciara) but I can't do anything. The computer is useable through the task manager, but performance has decreased dramaticly (To a level where my sister can't play Runescape). I've had the problem for awhile, my dad told me to leave it alone until summer. I know that I have the Win32 trojan and IRC backdoor and I can't get rid of them. I went into the registry and deleted scrtkfg.exe but it continues to reappear. I really want to figure out what the problem is. I can't get into My Computer, My Document, or WMP. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    u should be able to get into those folders if you restart your computer and boot in safe mode (hold F8 key while computer is booting up)... you won't be able to access the internet in safe mode but if you can download the programs you need off majorgeeks u could run them in safe mode to be able to access them...

    That's the problem though, I can't get My Computer to open in safe mode to disable the System Restore. Would it be better to just wipe the entire computer and just start over?

    Can you press the keyboard button down to the left of your space bar and see if it brings up the Start Menu. From there you should be able to access My Computer.

    Also if you bringup TaskManger and click File and select New Task (Run...) then enter explorer

    Does that bring back your Desktop?

    The Windows button doesn't work and I've tried explorer.exe and neither work.

    What can you do on this computer? Can you download files and install them some how?

    Yeah, I can download, surf the web, listen to music on Winamp. The problem is the desktop, taskbar, icons, and I can't use Windows Media Player, My Computer, My Documents, or the Control Panel. I've tried a lot of things but none have worked. I've been at a loss for a long time.

    Okay! So if you can download and install programs etc. Finish running the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

    To disable System Restore, bring up Task Manager and click File and select New Task (Run...) then enter msconfig

    When msconfig comes up, select the Services tab and then scroll down to th System Restore Service and uncheck it. Then reboot your PC.

    After doing ALL of the above if you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps below:

    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

    I unchecked the box and my system restore is down how do I get it to run again. I ask this because I unchecked the box and I couldn't get back online.

    The same way you disabled it but instead of unchecking, you check it!

    Stopping system restore should have nothing to do with being able to get online.

    I checked it but it said "Stopped" in the status menu. The modem started blinking again after awhile.

    After checking it you need to reboot.
