I have a Compaq w/ AMD 1.7GHz, 256k RAM and 60GB running XP Home. I run very few applications - mainly Word and Mozilla. My computer is running extremely slow. Have used Ad Aware SE (no probs), Norton (no virus), and Spybot (DSO exploit - Ungultiger Datentyp fur error). I think my registry may have been compromised but I'm not sure as I am not very advanced with these type of issues. I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks.

    Any devices attached?

What do you use for access to the internet? Browser, service?

I have an HP Office Jet 600 attached and I have Earthlink DSL with Zyxel modem. I browse with Mozilla latest version.

DSO Exploit is a bug in Spybot, here is a good link to read from Specific Spyware, http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=39945

The problem with the DSO Exploit is a little bug. We have already been able to locate and fix it, but unfortunately it was not included with the last update. It will hopefully be with the next one.

Your welcome. Make sure you have all of Microsoft's Critical Updates installed and as far as your performance issues, give us some more info. When did it start, what makes you think your registry has been compromised, have you checked for programs running in the background......stuff like that.

    Let us know. Steve

I will install new Critical updates - a friend had told me that the Service Patch 2 might still have bugs in it and to be careful so I haven't had automatic updates for about 2 weeks. The perf issue has been going on for a few months. For example, when I open a 200 page Word doc, it can take up to a minute for it to fully open whereas in the past, it would take maybe 15 seconds. Opening programs like Outlook, Mozilla etc can also take a long time. Have also tried to minimize all programs running in background. Besides internet connection and printer, Norton Clean Sweep and Internet Sweep, volume, and MSN Explorer are the only icons open on the toolbar. Registry issue was suggested by friend and I could not open a log of silent runners to see what other programs are running. Thanks again.

    To DFCA:
Have the "Ungultiger Datentyp fur" problem with Spybot. Did you ever figure out that part of your problem?
